Just saw this and I know how everyone dislikes VGA well this is a great piece and I mean by WTF were they thinking! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Final-Fa...1173?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item1c31388205 The stupidity amazes me hahahahahahahahaha oh dear! :highly_amused: Tell em they are dreaming .
US $2,490.00??? What the actual fuck? So let me get this right, you send off your sealed game to these people and they tell you what they think it's condition is by grading it using some weird sounding scale? and they advise you to price it that high? He may as well post it on there with a banner which reads "I do not wish to sell this item, thanks for looking anyway". You'd have to have had a couple of strokes to think that's a fair price.
I'm lost, is that actually a fair price for a sealed FFVII? I'm not an avid collector of sealed games but that seems insane.
Ah I thought they did prices as well, my mistake. I wouldn't think so error or not but the seller obviously does.
It is not even a high grade. 80 is one of the lowest scores you can get from them. Why would you pay someone to rate a sealed item? Maybe I will send my sealed Geist Force disc and ask $50,000 for each lol
This kind of speculation will grow massively. It will lead to incredible price and inevitable market crash. That is when I will buy.
Good idea!!! Will happily watch VGA sink, Video Game Authority my ass, who do they think they are anyway? I'm gonna create the FCA, Fried Chicken Authority, put pieces of fried chicken in a plastic case and see if it sells, pieces with the most preservative gets the higher grade, obviously.
I have to admit, it is amusing to see that some people actually think a plastic box and a sticky label adds $2000 value to their item. Sometimes I like to imagine that people do it out of satire just so I have a little bit of faith left in the human species, but sadly I don't think that's always the case.
While I'm sure absolutely none of you will understand, it's more about the reassurance of quality and preservation than it is the "sticky label" itself. I've bought quite a few copies of a particular Halo game over the years trying to find a nice mint one to keep. Every seller stated their copy was mint or with minimal damage; every seller lied. For the amount of money I spent on worthless, beat up copies, I could've bought the absurdly overpriced VGA 85+ copy that currently sits on eBay for $2k. Although I'd personally never drop that much on it, all things considered I'd have actually saved money by doing so in the beginning. Of course there are those who go on about "who are they to say what an 85 looks like," to which I'd say it doesn't matter. The point is that it's a consistent, unbiased source. If you think their 85 level games really look like 95 level, then lower your minimum grade to adjust to your own standards. So long as I know XX level looks acceptable to me, that's the number I'll shoot for as I know anything at that grade or better will suit the standards of my collection.
It's a very expensive re-assurance, mate!!! For example this one, £139.99 for Uncharted 3, I can get it for less than £30 new and sealed, that price is just plainly stupid!!! I understand for very old items you would want to do that and get them protected but PS3 come on!!!
It's not reassurance, though. It's pure bullshit. They're grading something based on minute differences that no one but the most anal retentive collector would care about. If they were grading used games, that would be one thing - there's a lot of variation in used games. There is very little variation in sealed games, and if you're willing to pay $8,000 for a game just for "reassurance", you're either incredibly stupid or you have too much money. Also, there's no guarantee that their evaluations are legitimate. It could be totally random, and you would have no way of knowing.
Hey if anyone wants i can find some Greek ps1 titles with a manual in Greek full of mistakes, i guess that would get some millions dollars on ebay
i have no problem with VGA. just like i have no problem with that stupid Power Balance Wristband. people can spend their money on whatever they want. if they feel more balanced after putting a wristband on, that is ok. if they feel they have a better colection after spending 2000$ on a plastic box, that is ok too. Stupidity will always be among us, it is impossible to treat it.
You clearly underestimate the amount of anal retentive collectors in the world. And it's fairly obvious that their evaluations have decent consistency. It's not like this is a new company with no track record - there are thousands of games out there that have been graded, so it's no mystery as to whether or not they just arbitrarily give out grades. As for the $8k on a game, that was clearly just thrown out their as a hyperbolic example that implies all graded games are priced as astronomically as that. Obviously some are (then again, there are a fair amount of ungraded games that would go every bit as high), but no one is paying $8k for a graded copy of a $200 game.
Based on the description that the seller gave, I am assuming that not all copies of Final Fantasy VII for PlayStation have the word "masterpiece" misspelled on the back. Anybody know how many copies contain the misspelling?
