I can see where you are all coming from but once I buy that sealed game the urge to open it overcomes me. Unless i misplaced a sealed game I have absolutley none in my collection. Heck often times after I buy a game new if its from Best Buy or Walmart I open it instantly. Even if I did want to start a sealed game collection, I could never do it with older games. I live in too poor of an area and they never come up. The closest city either direction is about 30-40 miles and it isn't worth going that direction to try and find games.
The number of fakes is also on the rise because of this douchebaggery. That Moonwalker is a really shoddy fake, re-sealed box. SMS & Genesis boxes (USA) didn't have a seal along the side as shown in that listing. Only a seal on the bottom, and a shrunken oval opening on top for the hang-tab. His also has the seals running to the hole on top, which was just left open. Really really shoddy. He should be reported. Edit: For reference, his other Moonwalker (SMS) looks real.
I thought they weren't sealed either, but this one was. Anyway, yes. Full set of (loose, i don't care about boxes) NES games. I play all of them, at least once. I give them all a worthy try. I try to appreciate every NES game that came out, and have put at least a few hours into everyone I own. Why do I buy them? The urge to have the entire NES library. why? I love this system more than any other, and play it more than my others. I play want the entire library of games, not so I can say "I have every licensed NES title" but so I can play any NES title on it's original hardware. That's how it's different.
Most jpn. shops reseal their items. Japanese N64 games were not sealed, they just came in sealed retail boxes of 10 copies each.
I can't understand the obession of having sealed gaming collections be it hardware or software. I myself have a certain system when buying games which is that for the games i'm really wanting or those i see that i decide iwant i'll try and buy them new or used in good condition but for random game purchases i don't mind them and their case being beat up as long as the game is playable. Games are meant to played and i wouldn't care what rare/sealed game i had becuase i would at least open it up try the game and if i decided to keep it boxed up it would be because i didn't like the game and not becuase of its rarity or whatever. Possibly the only time i'd keep a rare game mint or a game sealed to sell would be if it was fetching a high price and i really needed the money for house bill or anything serious like that.
Me personally, I always strive to buy new whenever possible. This pertains to everything from games, movies, to cars. You see, I take great care of my items and when I buy new, I don't have the added hassle of obtaining something ruined by some bored child (look at most used game discs...they look as if they've been put through a rough grit sander) or with excessive use/mileage. Now of course, I usually use my newly procured items since I find buying something for the sake of merely keeping it around a poor use of one's money. That said, I do understand the collector's mentality to some degree, in that if you're going to shell out the $$$ for a game, you may as well make the effort to purchase a new copy free of existing flaws and or problems. What they do with the item after the sale is their business...who are we to judge?
Each to his own. I can understand why sealed old games would be worth more than played games. If someone wants to pay the premium, then why be bothered? Just buy the played versions. If you buy sealed games only to open them then you've too much money to waste. Also, I dislike that everyone must always be pinned with a label. Both cases are of games collectors, just with different agendas. There is nothing wrong with it. Often collectors are a bit of both, or own a copy of an opened and sealed game. It's up to them. It's like when someone gets labelled as a 'casual gamer' or a 'hardcore' gamer. What a load of old bullshit. In everything, someone likes to feel superior. And I believe that is the real problem.
If i can get a sealed game for a few bucks more, why not? Opening a game is part of the gaming experience plus you can take good care of a non-scratched game. I would just not pay multiple the price of a used copy, because TO ME it is not worth that much more, but as you said, to each his own.
If you read Assembler's original post he is talking about expensive sealed games. I'm not talking about a couple of bucks difference.
On this subject, why any Squaresoft / Square Enix game after FFVII is so overpriced?! I mean, those game had tons and tons of reprints, Greatest Hits, Platinum, Best Hits version... It's not like old rare releases from the 80's and early 90's. While i don't like digital distribution, Square Enix did a great job releasing FFVII on the PSN store for a bargain price. If they release other games, they'll be just as succesful. I agree with you. Anyway i understand if people like to collect them sealed. It's just like action figure and diecast cars collectors. If they are happy, who am i to say they-re wrong. Last year i managed to get two PS1 sealed games, Motor Toon Grand Prix and Descent. They were sealed for more than 11 years! First thing i did was to open and play them for a whole afternoon! -- Here in Brazil, most buyers sell game stuff as rare. Only a small number of those people have really rare stuff. The rest are games in poor condition. Scratched discs, cart labels destroyed, missing manual, beat up case... Still on some brazilian boards there are some decent people that sell used stuff in great condition for fair prices. Sometimes even sealed items as well.
people who buy sealed games for the pleasure of owning them are just normal collectors. Everyone has different standards for their collection of games. People who buy sealed games as an investment on the other hand are mad, all it takes is a warehouse full of new old stock to be found and their investment is ruined. I've spent silly amounts of money on games in the past, but never for investment purposes. Once a game is in my posession it has the same value as all the rest no matter what I paid for it, as I don't intend to sell any of my Sega games. I collect games as a side hobby to playing them, I don't always have the spare time to play an involving older game with no save feature so I'll use the few minutes to indulge in my hobby of collecting games instead. It's also a nice feeling to be able to go in my games room and just select a title to play from the hundreds on offer. There's quite a few games I have really enjoyed that I probably would never have played if it wasn't for the fact that I want full sets for the Sega consoles.
What say you guys about guys like me who wants to collect games but rarely plays them. I have the time just not the want, well i have the want but not the patients. Ive been wanting to start a PCE collection for a while, just pick them up here and there, just to have. Then buy a nice Duo to top it off. But it wont be to play, id just load up an emu on my big TV and enjoy a great picture. The collection would just be a symbol of my childhood.
I never really got the whole "collecting sealed games" thing. but i don't really want to either. I've bought a couple sealed games and the first thing i did was crack them open and play them all day. Same with Xenosaga. I bought them all as a sealed set just to go through the joy of opening them. I just leave the sealed collectors be. i choose not to understand and i just don't care really. I'll leave you to your games and i'll be over here playing mine
whenever im looking for games i try to get it: 1:As cheap as possible 2:With box,or booklet, preferably i always look for games that are interesting to me,i dont give a crap about rarerity, just my opinion of the game counts, like 2/3rd of my n64 games consists of platformers and racers,i have 4 boxed games, one even has the cart bag in it(diddy kong racing) my $0,2
20 cents, huh? shows you care ^^ though i like the occasional rarity, i will likely never attempt a full set because of all the crap titles you have to amass then.
