the only problem with those guys over at VGMA is that they are lazy sods who hardly ever sort out the crap from the good stuff. this ends up having a New additions section with over 2500 files in it :smt009 I'd help them out archiving the good stuff if they'd want.

Does anyone know of a Jukebox style site that plays videogame music in the background while I can surf the web? there once was a RPG type one but I think it's closed down now. can't find it anywhere.

If you want really good game ring tones then you're not going to get them from Western companies. I heard them and while many think they are shit hot they pale in comparison to the stuff from Sega & Konami's sites in Japan. I made an Axelay Boss 1 SMAF that sounds better than half the crap they charge you for in the west. I belong to the Sega Music Network. For 300 yen I can get 10 songs per month. Not too bad I'd say. The problem is now that I have 106 songs on my mobile with almost no room left :smt022
I remember seeing an independant site that also did SMAF files for FREE download. They are for the AU phones in Japan so they wouldn't work on mine since it's Vodafone. The sound quality though was amazing !! You canlisten to SMAF files on the PC using Yamaha's Music Player. Sounds identical to the phones. I'll see if I can find the URL again to that site.

    here is a site too

Mirsoft.info - World of Game Music

    http://www.mirsoft.info/

it is just a shame you have to be a member there to download so maybe i should just get a membership and download from there

(sometimes i really am tired of being a member of some boards(www.martialarts.dk for an example :smt067 ) but not this one :))

because i am very happy with this great board :)

edit attention: i just found out that the last side is collecting sometimes from other sites (i do not hope they are ripping other peoples mod file rights :smt067 (check the modarchive for a rippers list)

  10. DJ Bad's Music Storeroom is awesome. :smt023 I made a kickass Bemani mix on a Minidisc that's great for working music in the library or in lab classes.

And OCRemix is second to none. :prayer:

Does anyone know of any decent GYM players? I tried in_gym for Winamp before, but it sounded like ass!

It sounded like ass because there isn't a really good way to rip GYM files. The methods available all have problems with the DAC section. this means that mostly drum beats or bass is missed out of the GYM rip. So the fault isn't with the player as such but with the way they are ripped.

Oh, that explains it. It was the percussion that sounded wrong when I look back at it. I guess I'll stick with making MP3s from Gens and/or real Mega Drives, then. Some of my most favourite songs (most noticably the boss BGM from ESWAT) sounded just too wrong...

Also, don't suppose there's any sort of sound format for the Konami SCC stuff used in some MSX games (same as what did the sound in the arcade Gradius and TwinBee)? Was it anything like the VRC6/7 used in some NES/FC games?
