Well, its been a while since I've seen that episode.:katamari: What was the name of that movie where the people are playing in a virtual reality game, and if they die in the game, they die for real? No, its not the Matrix.
Well Lawnmower Man had the virtual reality angle. I wanted to keep it more about real video games and not VR, but we can add more to the list if you want.
The OC I can't stand the program myself as nothing ever seems to happen in it, but i can't help noticing all the video game references. Apart from playing a PS2 frequently, there's Rockstar posters all over one of the kids rooms and some V. nice Atari cabs at the school.
I thought it was a GameBoy. I loved that movie when I was a little kid, but I haven't seen it for years. My guess is it's lost some of the brilliance it had when I was 5...
IIRC the young brother was playing a magic Game Gear game (without a cartridge?) and he said something like "Huh? I thought I was playing Shinobi". That always stuck with me since I've always loved Shinobi, especially GG Shinobi as a kid.
Why has no one mentinoed Street Fighter: The Movie? OK, so it was based on a game but the control panel from the arcade features as a mine control system in Bison's floating thing so I think it should get a mention.
IIRC Bloodsport has a Kung Fu/Spartan X cab. The TV show Home Improvement has a fake video game in one of the openings (but they did release a game for SNES) In the beginning of The Goonies, Chunk is playing a shooter (I think) at a pizza parlor.
I know that police academy movie when they are in russia had some r-tarded moments with people playing on Game Boys without games inserted and with color screen(!?!)
There is a 90s plane hijack movie where a teenager is playing a Nomad (!) somewhere at the beginning. Wish I'd remember the name...
As for seinfeld, frogger made an appearance in the infamous frogger episode(which I consider one of the serise best episodes) Also in one of the episodes where they visit there local video store you can see world series baseball and Jurassic park for genessis on the shelf.
