    Here's the idea:

    - I like music
    - I don't have any CD's though
    - I like Vinyl very much (playing around with my parents' discs for ages)

    ... so I somehow figured that collecting all of my favourite music on Vinyl would be a rather great idea, especially as I love the "charme" of this format. The Dark Side of the Moon is more intensive, darker and deeper while listening to a rotating black disc rather than to an unpersonal CD-player with nothing to look at. Thus far I have shitloads of favourite music from the 50's - 90's, mostly got this stuff from SOMEWHERE. Gladly most of my music is either old or cool enough to have got a Vinyl release :p
    My secret attraction to this format was finally revealed last Tuesday when I unexpectedly had to wait in the city for 2 hours for an appointment. Found a cool shop w/thousands of CD's & Vinyl's... bought Eumir Deodato's "Prelude", The Cure's "Standing at the Sea - The Singles" and Depeche Mode's "Violator". And shit what awesome music that is. I had all of this already as MP3's, but the vinyl real deal is sooo different.

    Ok, I became very ecstatic here. Just wanted to know what Vinyl player you can recommend in a price-range of up to 200 Euros (280$). I don't need a real highend turntable device as I don't have a real highend soundsystem either. :033:

    ave: if you can afford it, then get a Rega Planar 9. It is one of the best turntables out there. But then again you need a good sound system, but what I saw of the price of a Planar 9 was more like 900+ US Dollars, but perhaps you could find one cheaper than that price. Or else you need to look after old audio magazines with tests in them of different turntables. But anyway I cant remember my neighbours turntable. But he has a nice one too, so if you could wait a few days before you bought your turntable. Then I could ask him about it. Remember there are also different turntable pickups. Anyway that is my opinion. And Violator on vinyl is a smashing great LP without a doubt, just any of the DM fans here.

    @WDK
    A 900$-player is a little steep. As said, I am looking rather in the 200€-area. Had a short look on ebay and even (certain) Marantz and Technics players go for like 100-150€, but I don't know about the quality of players in that price league at all so I just rather posted a topic - I was sure there were some vinyl fans around here :)

    cez, since when are you in Bucharest?

    It's been just about three months now. It has it's good, bad and ugly sides... just like any other city.

    Technics SL-1200

    There is no other. ;)

    A new model may be out of your price range, but an older model (like a Mark 3) should be easy to find a deal on.

    I have heard about the SL-1200, I think even Tatsujin mentioned it here somewhere. Great machine for sure, looks very like very high quality. I may put one on my birthday-wishlist ^_^

    What do you think is a reasonable price for a perfect used one? I can't find any mk3's, but there are a lot of mk2's up on ebay for around 300 Euros (used) up to 500 Euros (new w/some accessory). Actually I'd like to stay at least under 400... need some LP's as well you know, lol. Kraftwerk, KISS, Pink Floyd, Deodato, Brubeck Quartet, Miles Davis... still a long way to go to having something worth to be called "well-sorted collection" :)

    ps:
    I bet vinyl gets you faster in bed with women as well, lol. I mean, what radiates more attractivity? Inserting a CD or pulling out a huge black disc, starting it up with a short scratch noise and watching the disc spinning & sparkling in the dark? :)

    You might want to try checking out the audiophile shops in your area & see if any are looking to sell their store display/demo turntables - sometimes you can get some very nice, well maintained decks for quite a discount that way.

    If you're buying new, a MK5 is going to be around 400-500 Euros. A used MK2 shouldn't be more than 200-250 Euros at most.

    Amen, brother.

    I have two 1200's and they've never let me down once, wonderful decks.

    I picked up one of them from eBay for just over 220 GBP (approx, 240 Euros) If you don't mind spending a little bit more than your original sum.

    On the other hand, if you want to spend an arm and a leg then there are true audiophile decks out there that retail for ridiculous prices - the only snag though is that these pricier decks rarely come with any kind of pitch control adjustment which is just plain silly in my mind... but still.

    Good luck with your purchase, whatever it may be.

    Sounds great. 250€ is about half of what I'm earning at civil service these days and that's supposedly totally worth it. I'm already on the hunt for some Krautrock and Kraftwerk as well as for Rammstein LP's, still have to collect everything that interests me and is of German origin while I'm not studying abroad. Couldn't imagine to buy English versions of Kraftwerk someday, like a UK disc of Menschmaschine w/translated title. :fresh:

    But still... that Japanese Autobahn LP is too lovely.

    I almost went vinyl a year ago before I just said fuck it and went completely digital. All my music now comes from the ominous black external hard drive right next to my speakers

    Though I can't really tell the difference between a high Bitrate MP3 and a flac file.

    Exactly my setup, has never been different. I now want to add a little "magic" to the music experience and this magic can't be described with a bitrate, just with "you like it or not". Chances are that there is no notable technical difference between a CD and a highgrade Vinylplayer connected to the same equipment, but Vinyl is still somehow different.

    @wdk
    What Technics? I am quite interested in the SL 1200 one as this is also the model that people recommended me most and it looks ace.

    I could ask him some other day, but his Thorens is a Thorens 158 TD

    Actually, I think they are getting better. But also you can get now a days anyway cables and what not that will turn any good 70/80´s turn table into a USB turntable. But a cool turntable I saw some weeks ago in ALDI (yeah we are cursed/blessed with that store chain too) was a USB turntable that could change between 33/45 and 78 RPMs, and that was awesome in my mind anyway.

    Awesome! See if you can get hold of some YMO too. :020:

    It's mostly in the way they remix/digitize the tracks for CD. They didn't do such a great job originally and these days they over saturate and filter the levels, which changes the original sound.
