Heres some intresting news from themagicbox.
Sega announced Sega Ages 2500 Series: Virtua Fighter 2 for PlayStation 2, a remake of the classic Model 2 arcade fighter. The game will be developed by Sega-AM2, contain both Virtua Fighter 2 and 2.1. 3DAges will publish the game in Japan on October 14, for 2500 yen.

This is great news, especially since am2 is doing the conversion. Virtua fighter 10th aniversary was a real good port. I can imagine this will be actuallly arcade perfect, finaly we will get shun di's stage in all its glory.

I've played the arcade version, I'm no VF expert but to tell you the truth, I never noticed the difference between the arcade and Saturn versions. Actually, for some reason I think I prefered the Saturn game for some reason back then.

If they do port the PC version like they did to Virtua Cop 2 for Dreamcast and Panzer Dragoon (hidden game) for XBOX then it will be another sad day for AM2 fans.

wow, virtua fighter 2 was always my favorite game... the saturn version didn't gave me the same feeling as in the arcade. (and strangely enough, I found the PC version better..and faster). Hopefully it also come's to the states (since I've got an usa ps2)..

about VF:10th ann... wasn't that version included with the usa and eur releases of 'evolution' ?

I'm kind of anti-AM2 at the moment. After spending several hundred dollars a month for the entire lifespan of VF4 Version A-C, and VF4: Evolution, I'm pissed that they take two years to come out with Final Tuned, which is just that -- a tune job w/ new single player modes. No new characters, a few new moves, a lot of OLD moves, and it costs like $2000 for the GD-ROM. Total bullshit.

Well went to sega of japans site and went to the page for it, needless to say i'm mixed on the looks, but it shows that they have shun dis stage in there and that they made the backgrounds 3d like the arcade( though it might be illusional 3d like fighting vipers 2), have a look here http://sega.jp/ps2/ages16/home.html Still it doesnt look that bad, i'll probably import it

The game looks much brighter than I remember it being. Why don't they make a Super Shinobi remake????

I have the Saturn version and I've played the Model 2 arcade version a number of times. the Saturn version is a decent conversion (not a port) of the arcade. at least the Saturn version runs at 60fps like the arcade and is actually at a higher screen resolution than the arcade. that's the good. the bad is, the Saturn has nowhere near the polygon count of the arcade. arcade is 250,000 to 300,000 polygons, Saturn is ~100,000 polygons. Saturn VF2 also has far worse texture-mapping and of course, no 3D backgrounds. the Saturn VF2 fighters look kinda flat compared to the arcade. thats because the Saturn has to use tricks to do polygons, and they're not real polygons either. whereas the Model 2 is a real polygon machine with real z-buffer. remember Saturn was designed to handle sprites, not polygons. only with time running out did Sega add some chips to boost Saturn's 'jimmy rigged' 3D capability.

I thought the saturn version was damn good.Am2 really raised the bar with games like that on the saturn and you can't tell if the poly's are fake or not,it really looks far better than any other 32 bit fighter imo.Looks better than any n64 fighter either.

The Sega ages games are not about graphics, more often than not the Gfx are shite on ps2 ages, the gameplay on most games however is top class,me and my mates have had some excellent battles on Virtua Racing, which is a sublime conversion, and had some real fun with the Decathlete pack which had three arcade games in one.The gfx in the Virtua Racing pack and The decatlete pack are pretty much arcade perfect but that all,no ps2 enhancements which is pretty sad in this day and age.I would have liked to have seen more enancements rather than the bare bones look and the Outrun game is just unforgivable.Still it's gameplay that counts and Virtua Racing,Decatlete,Bonanza bros have it in droves so I'm happy to pick em up.

It's just a pity that no console can fully emulate these awesome arcade machines such as Model 1,2,and 3 as I feel their look is still to be matched by any console, especially Model 3.I have yet to see a game that has that Videogame look and feel like Harley davidson,or Scud Race, it's a Sega look that I feel no one else has come close too,no matter how photorealistic graphics get,I want Model 3. :smt022

I dunno how to describe it,someone help me out here as these Gfx were sublime and had an edge to them, some of the new stuff is too polished and loses the arcade feel.

I wish SEGA releases those SEGA Ages on another console after PS2. I know this will never happen, but it shouldn't be too hard, they don't use much power or complicated 3D stuff.

I just cry because we asked for those remakes for ages and SEGA waited going software-only to release them...
