head over to the unreleased games section. I think there had been some on/offtopic mention of the various versions.

Sorry I can't assist you more, I bet Dot50Cal can though, he's a RE PhD.

Capcom was indeed planning on the Saturn version of Biohazard 2 being different from the more commonly known PlayStation "1.5" prototype, with one main change surrounding its playable characters. From what I've been able to find out (though admittedly most is probably just bad translation from various sources over the years), the intention was for Saturn BH2's male role to be filled by a journalist reporting on the chaos in Raccoon City. Since many leftover elements from the abandoned prototype were recycled in later sequels/spin-offs, it's possible this figure became the photographer as seen in Outbreak. However, one thing for sure is those magazine screenshots are certainly not from any Saturn code, as it's highly unlikely any such thing existed - the project was supposedly just 15% complete (therefore still way into the "alpha" stage of production) when the plug was pulled, and yes it's true to an extent that Capcom opted for PlayStation exclusivity after development was restarted. I've never heard about the possible release date of a Saturn version being a week after its more commonly-known PS counterpart, although I seem to recall a Japanese commercial showing both the Saturn and PS logos. Maybe it is true, but one thing I wouldn't count on is the long-standing rumour that BH2 on the Saturn would have somehow used that platform's 4Mb RAM upgrade cartridge. If anything, Capcom wanted to take full advantage of each system's respective power, hence the decision not to simply release the same thing (or as close as they could manage, at least) for both. The prototype in its PS form would almost certainly have been the greater technically (featuring double-figure enemies at once in some places - albeit due to simplified polygon models), though what's a real shame is we'll probably never know what Capcom had in store for Saturn gamers as they never really got far enough to show off anything substantial... apart from projected release dates and the reams of speculation we've now got to carefully siphon through in order to reveal any facts that may have been lost over the years...

I agree totally with Anthaemia, if there's some saturn footage of bio hazard 2... there must be from the 1.5 era.. and different..

By the way, i think that the capcom programmers themselves could have managed an incredible saturn version, wich was NOT an underpowered system in front of PSX, just different.. (i don't mean that you said that...of course!!!) just look at what happenned when the right hands taken that console...

hey Anthaemia did you find those early saturn screenshots?

    cheers!

That sounds a lot like Dead Rising. I wonder if the concept was reused for that game?

was there not a reporter in the final version of biohazard 2? ... wouldn't suprise me if they recycled the idea into that!

Hmm, except that the first end screen says PS, then the one after says Saturn. I wonder if which it is really running on?

I never saw any pictures for the Saturn version, let alone a video before.

it's a toughie, all the pics i've seen of 1.5 PSX have really atmospheric lighting, a lot of blue hues etc - this video looks real grainy on the texture side (a la HOTD saturn :>) and generally not as smooth, the "SS" at the beginning and saturn logo at the end seem fairly indicative, however my japanese is quite pants, can't read the rest of the first screen :D

Very cool find. The insistence on pointing the SEGA Saturn version out at least 3 times could mean something?
