So after the soft launch on 2-15, the full launch happened on 2-22. Having one of the first batch of japan vita models its been fun kicking back and watching the launch here not having to worry about getting one, pre orders etc Heres some things I noticed 1. Random people here who have seen or tried out the vita think its a great console and are very impressed with it. A few hardcore gamer friends were so anxious to get it (thanks to the inflated wait time between US and japan launch) they jumped to buy the 3g early model. The insanely awesome case the 3g early model came with also helped. 2. Gamestops that didn't have pre orders for a game would get one copy per store. Possibly to cause shortages? All sony branded games were in ready supply but anything UbiSoft or other company you had to hunt for. 3. Non gamestop department stores had tons of games sold out at least on launch week. Pretty well picked over racks. 4. 32 gb memory cards sold out everywhere, had to luck into getting one when a local store got a shipment (yes it was worth it). I had a 4gb from japan but didn't want to pay the import for the largest one. 5. Store displays all had the gravity rush demo and tons of people wanted it at launch, but its not out till May here. The release seems to be a success here so far. I think theres more excitement for it in the US then the Japan meh reaction.
Good marketing. But I won't be fooled by Sony. They've already taken enough shits on loyal customers of consoles like the PSP. I won't be buying one for a long time. And when I do i'm not buying the worthless 3G model.
I refuse to buy it now (just got released in Australia), it's $350 for the WiFi model here. Secondly, memory cards are really expensive, and just like any console release so are the games. Launch parties here were really empty max of 5 people showed up to various EB Games stores around my city. Not really sure why some people have rushed into buying one... I can't really say how well it's sold here, but many people have turned away from it (that I know). It's a powerful system blah blah but most consoles are when they release..
Down here, Sony Brazil will only offer the wi-fi model on a mandatory bundle. Vita + Modnation Racers + 4GB card + carrying case = R$1.599,00. That's 935 US dollars! Talk about a MAJOR rip-off. LOL Anyone can just import it, and even paying the high taxes, in the end it will be cheaper. A lot cheaper! Sony Brazil is so pathetic.
I got mine day of launch, my wife had it preorder for me for a VD present. It was kinda tricky to find 16gb card a couple days after launch and looks like software has been moving pretty briskly too. I reckon Best Buy doing the buy 2 get 1 free deal helped.
I don't have a PSP. And if I buy one, I'd rather spend a little bit more and get the Vita than 100+ on the latest PSP.
Are the 3g models sold in the US carrier locked (to att)? If so, are the 3g models sold elsewhere also carrier locked? I'm interested in getting one eventually, but would want the 3g model. I'm also curious if more colors would be released, I'd want a white, or red one.
Meh, not interested at all since I've got a gut feeling the Vita's library will be 90% ports just like the PSP's. Besides, the prices of the memory cards are lolworthy.
There's going to be support for PSone classics eventually, right? I thought I read they were going to talk about it soon or something but I'm not sure.
I'm mixed on getting a Vita. On the one hand they nixed the UMD for a card. But now we're locked into their proprietary memory cards. Until they release a second version that uses common flash cards or an adapter is made, I'll be a hold out for a while longer. And what's the deal with the touch sensitive back? That sounds a bit redundant to me.
I can't say for the US version, but the EU/german 3G Vita has no SIM- or netlocks whatsoever. The german 3G Vita comes with a Vodafone SIM, but I already successfully used my Simyo/E-Plus and o2 cards in it. I think it's very likely it's the same for the US model. Speaking of 3G, want a lol at that?
