wow, necro thread... I am super excited about VR and its possibilities. I had the chance to try a bunch of different headsets so far (Gear VR, Vive, Oculus, PSVR) and I think PSVR is definitely the best value. Vive was still the best overall immersion, but its price and requirements (I don't own a Windows PC) are putting it out of range for me. I hope the market continues to take off now that the initial VR hype has long cooled down. I don't see AR taking off until we have a breakthrough in macro display and transparent OLED technology. I tried Hololens 1 and it was a nice proof of concept, but as an actual AR device it really sucked. It's like those computers in the 80s they used to simulate 3D modelling of cars and machines... "yes, it does do the job to an extent, and no, it doesn't look very good." Hopefully we get full VR immersion mit 8k field of view in the next 10-15 years. The major drawback of VR right now is resolution and field of view, and even at 4k the resolution will still look slightly grainy.
