Ugh. This is the model of PS2 I own, and I think it's a really nasty, cheap-looking machine. I'd actually prefer a black one, at least it's ugliness is less conspicuous. Better yet a slimline, if there weren't all the problems that went along with those.

EDIT: uh, not to spoil your sale there or anything Barc0de.

it's not my sale at all. Dr_Slump is a close friend of mine from Real Life (tm), and I ve known him for many many years :p The item i was talking about is located at a local shop, so I m not making anything out of the transaction anyway;)

On that note, the Silver PS2 is butt-ugly. My neighbour has one and I thank Parris for giving me a black one.

Figured as much, better to err on the polite side though. And yeah, wish I'd picked up any damn colour but this one. Save yourself Slump!

Satin silver is neither my particular favorite but it fits better with the rest of the HT equipment in addition of being actually a collectible piece.

Anyone got the actual numbers of silver PS2s made? Not sure it's that collectable.

it's as wide-spread as a flu. I ve seen them everywhere, they can't be that rare. A white Ps2 on the other hand..well that's another story.

PS: Slump, it won't fit your equipment really. It's "shitty silver", the fake, plastic, cheap-type of paint. It's also disgusting to see the black piece they left between the ON/RESET and EJECT button. Half-assed paint-job :\

Exactly. "Shitty silver" plastic paint, console and pads. If you're looking for something classy to fit in alongside a nice home theatre setup you'll be disappointed. Might want to look into a PSX console (the PS2 Tivo thing), although there'd be region issues I guess.

A PSX would be a great treat as long as I'll be able to somehow modify it to become region-free on games.

I have got an unmodified pal European Car Colour Edition Playstation 2. It is silver in colour, comes with the original silver vertical-stand and is in immaculate condition. The stand and the console are mint and boxed.

The finish isn't at all comparable to the crappy satin silver PS-2 as this is really been painted silver. Very shiny silver to be precise. And the bit between the buttons is also painted !
It is an official SONY product and was available in very limited quantities only. The other available colours were blue, yellow, white and red.
    ;-)

Sony calling those Silver Satin units "limited edition" was a bit of a joke to be honest. They are pretty common, but they are also cheap & nasty, just like all of the last series (old stylee) as they dumped the hard wearing thick black plastic for thin, brittle nonsense that scratches easily. Having taken a few of that series apart you also find that the lasers seem to be pretty unreliable. You have got a few plus sides though, with built in IR and the ability to read various other discs and they are FAR quieter than the previous versions. So, as long as you can find a mint edition treated with a bit of care and respect, you'll be ok. The finish isn't as bad as some people are suggesting, silver ain't all that bad, but the actual build quality sucks!

If it's for a collection then they are available on eBay for as much as you are prepared to pay. I have seen them go for less than £50.00 fairly frequently, but assume that they are unboxed, or badly handled (not the mint condition you are looking for).

I have an Aqua edition of the same run and to be honest I prefer to use a standard black as I know it will take the usage.

Actually, there were some genuine "limited edition" satin silver PS2's.

The original satin silver (SCPH-39000S) was released in Japan as part of the Spring 2003 color collection, and "only" 10,000 were made (along with Sakura and Aqua). The satin silver (and the other colors) had a general release later as the SCPH-50000-series and were not limited edition.

In Japan, they also released another limited edition one called the "Toys R Us Satin Silver" which was SCPH-50000TSS, but not sure how many were produced.

Thank you all guys, coincidentally 3 days ago I went to a game store to buy a black DS lite and I got a brand new boxed SCPH-50000 silver for just 50 euros.
Anyway, now I'm wondering if there was ever a white model produced, because I remember seeing it in playasia or something a couple of years ago.

Yes, there was! I'm not sure whether 2 different versions were made of this, but I have seen it called Ceramic White (like the PSP) and Pearl White. There is actually a complete list of ALL the various versions made by Sony. I'm in a rush and can't remember where it is, but Google SCPH list or something and it should turn up. (or someone on here might provide it kindly, if they have more time on their hands this morning). Of all the limited editions, that's the one I like the most, but again it's not the rarest. The red, yellow, blue and sakura (I think it's a peachy colour) are units you just never spot. Once in a blue moon!

There's one on Italian eBay for 270e at present.

Oh, there is also a really funky midnight blue clear PS2 that comes with a hard drive out of the box! Again, never seen one in the flesh but it was a Japanese only limited release and looks....simply.....lush!

...and a quick look finds one in USA - wished I had the spare cash :-(

Anyone got one? <much grinding of jealous teeth if yes!>

I've got almost every different colour PS2 made (all except the Snow White SCPH-30001R European Automotive Color Collection NTSC -U/C model), all new (or nearly new) in boxes...!

The midnight blue one you refer to was called the PlayStation2 BB Pack (SCPH-50000NHMB). I understand that at the time it was released, these midnight blue ones were to replace the standard charcoal black, but Sony changes their minds, so production stopped after the first year.

In terms of white ones, there has been a few, the Snow White model referenced above, the Spring 2004 collection Ceramic White one (SCPH-50000CW), the 2004 Summer model Pearl White (which is a sort of metallic white - SCPH-50000PW). There is also the GT model (SCPH-55000GT) which is identical to the SCPH-50000CW, only it came boxed with GT4 Prologue. Only the Snow White one was a limited edition (only 666 in each of the three territories).

    Dave.

Dave, quite simply put, I want, no NEED your collection lol

    Excellent

I love to hear about stuff like "Sony intended to replace the black unit with the...." - why the hell didn't they, or even just have 2 like MS and their beloved Elite edition?

    Nice!

I won this item, I think it's a great deal compared to the $400+ I need for a official white model. Do you believe it's original?
I really wonder what am I going to do with the tray though.
