If i say 1.350.000.000,that'd make 1.350.000.000 + 179.000.000 = 1.529.000.000 Last time i checked, 1.529.000.000 > 1.500.000.000 I was talking of native chinese people only.
as said before, the figures are from 2005, so we now have more than 1.5 bln english speakers, so english is still in a slight lead over chinese.
And given the economical power rise of China since 4 years,i'm pretty sure chinese second language speakers have increased as well. So i'm really not sure english language will maintain its leadership. Retro,if you need me,i'm here.
I guess we'll just have to wait for updated data, rather than just making up arbitrary numbers and making claims based on them
WORD! but it will need another 1 or 2 years before they will release the next estimate, and by then it will be outdated, even before its release.
LOL! Quick, check again - it might have changed! You know what's funny? How many of the people arguing that Chinese is the most spoken language (that's been the case for ages - I remember that fact 'when I were a lad' ;-)) are actually Chinese? It's not like some national pride thing, which you'd expect ;-) Johnny, yes - Madroms sorted it out for me and sent a cheque off :icon_bigg Adol - thanks for the offer! I don't know why I didn't think to ask you! I'll remember if I get myself stuck again in future ;-)
