yeah, no clue how much higher the other guy was. Not sure if he put a super high bid or just a little bit more. I bid 700 at less then a min and the other guy outbid me with 10 seconds left. So he probably put a high 800-1000 price.

    :(

I want a tdev to work with this summer.... (i really was going to use it and not let it sit pretty on a self).

    -edit-
Bah, the winner even post here. DAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you make me cry. :(

  5. Well, if it's any consolation you would of probably got pretty pissed off with the limitations of the TDEV in the end...

...Save your cash m8 and get a 'proper' all 'singing all dancing' GDEV :)

Checking out all 3. I think TDEv would have been the most useful for me. Mostly over being able to use a NR Lazer. Plus it consumes less over all space.

GDEV sucks because of the stupid card you have to install (I installed a DDH at work and its a freaking hell hole). Plus its just simpler to use when using the SN compiler (which i plan to do). Dev wise GDEV is the best solution but for what I want, TDEV would be better.

I know if I fork out the cash I could probably get a tdev through work but the problems will be a) I wont truely own the hardware, b) if I leave the studio i can't take it with me, c) its a $$$ expense I would never get back.

  7. Rofl, "sucks because of a stupid card", wow, its just a PCI card, hardly rocket science m8! :smt082

...Also you can run the SN compiler with the GDEV if you want it simple ;)

No but its a pain in the ass to install. On top of it the box has to sit next to my pc where a TDEV can go up on top of my desk. I have a DDH setup right now and this thing is a bit anoying (size, pain to plug up, yay more cables to kick and trip on :().

*note, the DDH is works so i can't take it home to use. So only way to use it is to stay late where a TDEV I can take home and as well transporting is easy. GDEV due to card would have to stay in one place only.

  9. Lol, you can't compare the DDH to the GDEV...

...The GDEV is far superior and simple to set up, I take it you've never used one?

GDEV no, Just read official docs on it.
I know the GDEV has less pluged in but it's still not going to be as easy to move around as a TDEV would since I wont need anything or any extra cards to install. Plus the $$$ fun of tracking down the pci card (there is one on ebay but i dout it will go for cheap, on top of having to buy a GDEV).

The second big reason is the TDEV having a NR drive in it. I am looking to build up stuff to make development posible and easy on a NR Cube this summer. True I have to admit I dont know how it would be like working with a GDEV but if it's anything like a DDH in terms of how files and iso are delt with. Then it will be somewhat of a pain to work with.

Before seeing the TDEV on Ebay, I was going to go with a simple GBox but its going to be extreamly costly to track down a NDPD cart writer.

G-devs are nice :) I have a second one coming in. Never workd wih a DDH before. I saw the t-dev but for the price I could not justify what it can do compared to a G-dev.

As I've told you by PM if I ever find an ODEM card for my GDEV I'll sell you this TDEV for the £700 you bid. If you have curiosity about it my bid was £1200.

now i must hunt down an ODEM or buy a TDEV from SN (which will suck since I will never be able to get my $$ back on it or will loose it if i leave the studio i work for).

    Come on ODEM card !!

Because all development hardware (specialy nintendo stuff) is property of the 1st party company and not the studio who purcahsed the hardware. Sure its true that twards the end of the systems life they probably wont go hunting down most of the hardware but it is in contract that if a studio goes bankrupt or the first party company request it returned that the development hardware must be returned to the first party company (nintendo).

As well, If I purchased a unit from SN though work. The unit would be licensed to the studio I work for, not me. :(

A TDEV is a joint venture from SN & Nintendo.

Tis sad, If not for nintendo requesting units returned I could still probably have a first model DS unit on my desk (just a pcb with 1 lcd screen).

With bankrupcy courts forcing the sale of items. Good luck on nintendo, Sony or Microsot getting development items back once the items are sold.

Never could understand why game companies would put up with the big 3's ludicirous contracts. Especially if all of them stood together their systems would have few games and as such really be a market flop.

The point is, those devkits are never "sold" they are only "licensed."

Basically, dev houses are (in simple terms) leasing the hardware.
