My various contacts who used to buy from Yahoo are quite unavaialble now. I'm looking for someone in Japan to bid a little (1000-5000 yens) on a certain development item that will end in 9 hours, and who could ship it back to me. I will of course pay all expense (I can use PayPal), with an added bonus if you want.
I'd be really happy if someone could help with it :)

    Rinkya has dropped their prices.

No offense, but < 10% is an incredibly fair price for the work involved (especially for items that are relatively cheap). I used to profit way more when selling items directly from japan.

A standard business (especially with used merchandise) would usually make %25-35% profit. True, they're not risking any money, but the labor involved in making 10% for one measly transaction is painful.

    EDIT:
I didn't read that right. Yeah -- that's kinda steap. Maybe I should start a new business. :)

It's a bit more than 10% + you have to pay shipping too but you noticed already.

Would be a good idea to start a business in that area if you have the time for it and you could make things cheaper too if you get the sellers to ship directly to your customers but I think that won't be too easy ;)

Believe it or not, I thought about this a LOOOONG time ago. If I'm not mistaken, I was one of the pioneer "sell from Japan" guys. I'm sure there were some others, but I actually got a ton of repeat business, as I wasn't flakey.

Anyways, I thought about automating some service, but to be honest, it's a lot of work to make it work, if you know what I mean. I quit selling altogether because I just don't have the time. Once I got a fulltime job, it paid much better, but demanded more time. My new job even more (of both) so there's not really a need.

What I'd like to do is get a collection of people living in Japan (and even Japanese that speak English) over at Japanese gaming that can openly sell/trade, but that's incredibly hard. There's not a ton of bilingual gamers (or people for that matter) in Japan, and even fewer that are on the net. Then, getting them to find out about the site is hard. I tried to register at Gamer's Terminal, but they dissed me b/c I have no Japanese on my site. :(

Thanks for your suggestions, guys. I was never enclined to try Rinkya before.
I just checked it out, and fees were more in the range of 20-30% than 10%, unfortunately.

(I managed to win this item thanks to one friend in Japan, but shouldn't bother him on a regular basis).

Man, if there was a service cheaper than Rinkya, I'd be buying until my checking account was dead in the water.

Omar, I can help you but I must warn you that there's no backing out once you've made a bid plus I need the cash up fron in my Paypal account. The amonut of work needed for Yahoo auctions is a joke. EBay is far easier to buy from. Anyway, you know that you can trust me since you've bought some goodies from me before (By the way you new Sega Ages are being sent on Monday) If you're interested send me a mail to my Yahoo.com address.

I personally don't mind paying it up front first, just that since Im willing to do it out of kindness, at least I expect those to put a lot of effort in actually pay me in the end.

I'll stop doing it only when ppl back out from a deal just once, cos I think once youre bad you stay that way,
so far I put trust on ppl and pay up front for goods less than $1000 for any bids at Yahoo J.
thing is I never trust paypal, or any other similar internet money handling scheme, prefer direct transfer to bank account.

What do direct transfers from the states cost these days? Back when I was poor as dirt and had to have my freakin' parents bail me out (when I was a student) it was like $40 on the US side, and a 3000 yen charge on this side.

I should probably touch base w/ you kids in the near future. I'm slated to move in the Fall. It's still a bit surreal, but will happen. :(

From US sender around $40~$55 and then my citibank around 2500~4000 yens.

    But this is safer,
because don't forget, for anyone in the US sending money thru paypal, there is a possibility for them to 'chargeback' and reclaim the money from 'recipient' paypal account, so we're in the hole for several hundred dollars and items are already shipped :(

By way of bank to bank transfer, banks in japan can never authorized any chargebacks or funds return without owners consent.

Actually, if someone has a verified address, I don't think they can do the charge back thing.

Cheapest way to send money, is an international postal money order. Yeah, it's not immediate, but they only cost $3.50 on the US side, and they're extremely cheap to cash.

I've got a JNB account, so can transfer money anyway -- it's a shame they don't go international, as it's like Paypal, without all the crime and ripping people off.
