Yes I was told of that too, but I still heard its still possible to charge back, this was discussed on ebay forum some time ago, then I thought might as well stay away from paypal for good.

I suffered quite a loss after a buyer charged back on my paypal account and paypal being one sided and favors the sender more. Not long after this incident, I found that I wasnt alone, when I read on a website, it says that Paypal is facing litigation in three states in US, but didnt follow that story further, just plain forget about it :)

Yeah I also accepted money order but just that as you said, prefers bank transfer simply cos its faster. Usually I give $10 discount on ppl who opted for bank transfer. so whatever their bank charge them just deduct the total amount to be paid by $10.

Japan Net Bank is more local, but I think there will be a time when they go international, but they earn a lot thru yahoo Japan, everybody must use JNB, I still use citibank more cos Its better for international dealings.

Yeah, but Citibank is pretty lame. It takes a while to learn, but they're just another lame Japanese bank with a US label thrown on it.

I'm sure JNB has a lot of stuff they have to do before going international. The beauty of them is, they ARE a bank (unlike Paypal). I'm sure you could get your salary sent their just as easy as UFJ or Mizuho. That might be their downfall though. Setting up accounts for non-residents carries certain legal proceedings that might not be worth the hassle. That, and to get any kind of decent internaional market going they'd need to publish all their literature in English.

Weirder things have definitely happened though.

well maybe your expectations from a bank is a bit higher than mine, so far citibank did well in my case though, That time I didnt trust them either, but as you probably known, here in tsukuba, albeit a foreigner invested city, didnt have an internationally reputated bank, Joyo bank isnt exactly reputable internationally, that time I have the option either to sign up for a citibank or shinsei bank who have better international links.

some ppl say tsukuba a science city, but to me sadly I found a lot of racism around, hate it :Hangman:

Yeah I think Japan has a lot to do to go international, not just their banks. I still see good future doing things here tho

Despite my moving in 6 months, I'm trying to keep as many ties to Japan as possible. I've married into the gene pool, so it's safe to say I'll be back. I've just always thought it's good to have connections in both places -- hedge your bets on which has the better economy at the time.

We'll see though. There's a big "Japan Boom" even in the mainstream of the west. It'll either fizzle out, or Japnaese might replace Spanish as most studied 2nd language in High School. :)

What I'm looking for now is a mail forwarding service. My friend has one from the states to here. Everything is mailed to this address, and they box stuff up and send it once a month. I wouldnt' even no where to find something like that. Google searches in Japanese most of the time turn up dick.

Check out http://www.mailnetwork.com/ if you need a mailing adress in japan.US adresses are dirt cheap everywhere but japanese and other foreign kinda hard to find if you don't need a whole virtual office.

    Thanks for the tip!
But, damn, that's expensive. $1k/year is about $900 more than I want to pay, considering I have to spend $8/shipment.

I've got the inlaws that I'm sure will hook me up... I would just feel a bit "restrained".

    Nonetheless, thanks for the link.

were you refering to "myus.com" when you say your friend has one of those mail forwarding service, that company does the same as what you said. ship the whole stuffs in one box and ship to given address at specified date each month. very neat, and I heard pretty reliable too.

you'll definetely be moving out of japan in 6 months ? leaving the mrs in japan ? hmm thats pretty tough (for me)
why not you switch jobs and find something else in japan ? instead of following this company, why they move out of japan if i may ask?

Yeah let see how japan pull thru this so called economy downturn, but I bet there are still future earning a living here, Im in the IT field and despite all the shitty things at the office happening, I still believe its best to hang on.

I'm not sure what my buddy uses. But, he's in a much better financial situation than me, so it could cost the same as far as I know. If you saw how big his flat was, you'd shit.

The Mrs. is coming with... otherwise I'd just dump everything on her and pick it up later. Only the in-laws stay. I"m sure they'd help, but I gotta keep the numbers low.

Why am I moving with the company? A few reasons.
1: This is the dream IT job (no dress code, no bullshit, no boss breathing down your neck). I get to do basically everything tech-related in our small office, and when it's not busy, nobody cares that I'm studying about something else that might benefit my work (currently C++).
2: The people I work with are cool as shit. We play darts for coffee each day even!
4: I'm allowed to have wallpaper I got from this site:
    http://www.eastcoastsurf.com/misc/reefcomp/index.html
5: Cash -- the job pays extremely well.

It's really a no-brainer. I would be stupid to give it up. Besides... we're moving someplace tropical. :)
