After watching video again of both games (and the early U64 version of waverace with watercrafts). Which game did you like better? For me it still to this day is Waverace 64 and I think what does it is the water. You feel like your really not just racing but also trying to controll and handle your jet ski over this rough and wild water. While on the gamecube game, even tho it improved some things, the water just felt so damn flat. Sure if you ride behind someone you get to feel the waves he generates but if you're in first or out and alone (which is so damn common in waverace) every thing just feels so damn flat. Its just not as fun to me. So what do others think? -- side note -- My issue with Waverace GCN is pretty much my issue with any water base racer like it. I think they could be infinantly better if they were more like waverace 64 with it's dynamic water. Hell I wish I was working on surfs up PSP for ubisoft because I would have made DAMN SURE the water played like that (racing elements in that game were decent but the maps and water felt too damn flat). Note surfs up ds/psp were not the same as the console version. ds/psp were more like mario kart but on water.
I LOVE Wave Race 64. It was probably the second game I ever played on the 64. It will always be dear to my heart. I've only played the GC version once, in a Wal*Mart, and that was it. I didn't like it. So, my opinion is... very biased. BUT being able to do tricks off of huge waves in the 64 game was awesome. I always put in the hardest difficulty to get the most waves and those spike thingys... Such a good game...
hahaha first thing i though when I read the thread "Warm up time, follow that dolphin". Liked the N64 one never played the GC, water was pretty cool even by todays standards. Cant help but think of the announcer, just a nice plain womans voice nothin special about it (which was cool).
I prefert waverace 64 primary cause the jetski physic is the same in multiplayer and single player, IIRC for some reason I don't understand in the GC version in multiplayer the jetsky do not act like in single player. Btw the the new music track and voice in the shindou version realy add something interesting to the original version other than simply rumble support like Mario 64.
Wow, I was JUST playing both of these today! I would say N64 because of the nostalgia factor. The Gamecube one has cool water effects but when I got Gamecube I wanted to play actual games, and water effects just weren't as impressive. The other stuff in the game just isn't as good or exactly the same.
Totally agree with you - it has to be the original for me. I just didn't feel the later one was quite the same.
I own the shindou version. Actualy soon I will have shindou Mario64 & animal forest (user help me get them off yahoo).
Hmmm I have never played the gamecube version, but I still have fond memories of the water in the N64 version. Since the water was really water like.
I quite like the NGC version to be honest! Well, I've never really played the N64 version, but what the heck, it stands on its own.
Wow, I didn't know that there were shindou versions of anything but Mario 64 (which I still don't own. CURSES!) I'll have to get on that....
I'd definately have to side with the N64 version. Nostalgia plays a big part whenever anyone does this kind of comparison but in this case (and a few others that transferred from N64 to cube) I actually feel the older version is the better game. Others on cube that didn't live up to expectations - Mario Kart Extreme G Mission Impossible Goldeneye (Lets face it, this one was a toughy)
I agree @barcode Although I was quite flashed of GX's speed and graphics I still prefer the N64-version... maybe for its Death Mode and less hectic playability.
X had over GX: a) better music tracks b) levels were more and more creative/complex c) optional level editor (64DD is a must for any serious n64 player) d) Better art direction/style f) double-tapping to kill was better than using X+side g) overall it was more "raw" and hardcore than the more pacified GX. That said, GX improved quite a few points, including a better car editor and more things to unlock - I m curious what the next F-zero will look like , and by God I hope there's no motion control involved.
I can't see how a game like F-Zero will work well with (nice alliteration) motion controls. It's all about tight controls.
well mariokart is about tight controls too, in my view, but they re making it a motion controlled title to my dismay.
