An eager tipster sent in a pic and some info on what appears to be some sort of PS3 clone called "Winner" – think Vii meets PS3. While the Vii concentrated on mimicking (horribly, but still) the Wii's feature set, the Winner is all about mimicking the PS3's myriad media functionalities. That means a photo player, karaoke functions, SDHC for media storage. But it's all about the (really crappy) games, right? Winner is going to be packing 2D and 3D graphics with online and motion sensing features (note the totally not-a-Wiimote controller). How much would you expect to pay for the privilege? Did you say $600? No! Did you say $400? No! How does $120-150 sound? At that bargain basement price, these things are really going to go fast; good thing they're promising 3 million consoles for the Japanese and North American markets.

So what do you all think? Sounds interesting, but it most likely will turn out to be crap like Vii.

Very interesting that they state it will do 3D games. That's got to be a massive advancement for clones out of china (note, not a racist mark. Vii unshockingly is pure 2d).

Over all it seems to be targeting being like portable mp4 players but insted for Home/TV use. I wonder what kind of cpu it has.

Again, I'll say "And the Chinese wonder why we don't take their product seriously" I mean, this is bound to be yet more cheap shit just like the Vii. The only good thing to come of of China is that MP3 / media player with the cool screen (sorry, I forgot the name)

I think china could build a serious product but I think a large issue comes down to is cost. Most chinese products are cheap because they have to be. $100 for us is nothing but for people in china it's a massive % of their income.

I think as time moves on and china improves. We could see some amazingly cool crap coming out of china. Let us not forget that china does manufacture many of our high end toys (Ps3, PSP, DS, PS2, Wiis (i think), ...).

Well, sort of. Most of the time (I think) the mother corporation makes the essential parts (in the case of PS3, in Japan) such as lasers, microchips, motherboards, etc., and then sends them to China along with instructions on how to assemble them. In other words, they just do the grunt work.

Yep, the Chinese just do the "grunt work" as la-li-lu-le-lo said  I have quite a few electronical items that say Parts made in Japan assembled in China. Also anything great out of China normally has a none Chinese company behind it. Just look at the Vii. That's F*ing expensive yet there's sweet F.A. inside it and the makers know that. It's just the way it is in China. make cheap shit and get as much as you can for it. Korea used to be the same but these days they make some real quality goods.

Not really true there are many chinese research bases that deal with a big amount of research into technologies and also if china had the resources available i think they could (and prob will) become one of the biggest drivers in reasearch, development and high quality product development/production.

So did the Russians in the cold war and look at them now :( If they were doing such high profile research then why can't they show us anything other than crap? Even their high end cars are shit. They look fantastic on the outside bust as soon as you take a look in to what went in to the car you can clearly see they are a million years away from the likes of a Aston Martin which to be fair they aren't competing against but they are trying to compete against Lexus (Toyota), Mercedes and BMW and still they fall terrible behind.

If you know any Chinese well you'll know they are all for doing things on the cheap and getting the most out of it. Believe me I know many Chinese really well and they are all the same.

I have one and i'm mixed about it. The Hw is not bad, LCD is nice, software is crap (excluding video playback which is rather nice), and the buttons are crap. I think if the buttons were improved, the OS swapped for something linux based (the blackfin cpu is linux compatible) and made open source to work on. I think the JXD301 could be a banging system. Over all it's a really powerfull little thing in a super small case. I'm going to ultimately look into some hw modding (replaceing buttons & d-pad for something more GBA like) if the hacking pans out well (allowing us to execute our own code).

Well half of these "crap" things are developed by small companies who cant afford to create goods with high quality parts simply because the market they are going into is desperatly poor. You cant sell a pair of Nikes for £100 to the people who are getting paid £1 an hour to make them...

Not to say that most of these "developers" and "product designers" arent likely to have many Oxford university degrees inbetween them.

As if no other nationality is? The main source of income for China right now is so called reputable companies (many from japan) who i take it are all up (if not almost forcing china) for making things on the cheap and getting the most out of it.

Im guessing your ok with tainting all british farmers (if your following the british media right now) with the same statement of "you'll know they are all for doing things on the cheap and getting the most out of it. Believe me I know many Chinese really well and they are all the same."

nope, no idea about British farmers. Don't know sweet F.A. about what's going on in Europe like most people there know sweet F.A. about Asia. that's why I don't comment on anything European because I just don't know. Japan loves to do America doggy style mind you so we know all what's going down there:shrug: Sometimes I get the feeling that the Japanese media thinks the world comprises of Asia and America

Sorry for getting a little off topic but where can I find a JXD hacking community? Are there forums or anything? I'm sort of interested.
