I suppose it's only a matter of time before 3D chips become cheap and ubiquitous enough that even the pirate companies have access to them.

Frankly, I wish they would make something like this with some provision for homebrew development... sort of like a console version of the GP2X that people could port emulators, ScummVM, and Doom to... I'd buy that. After all, they're not selling any games for the thing outside of the built-in ones, so it wouldn't cost them anything in lost sales.

This thing has an SD card slot... anyone know what kind of CPU it has? Perhaps it could be hacked.

considering mobile phones can handle pretty good 3d graphics, it's no surprise that larger devices can do the same eventually for a cheap premium.

    What a craptastic name...

Anyway, about the graphics, putting some 3Ds on a cheap console is everything but expensive these days.

The problem is that while the famicom got whored by the pirates since the beggining, they only recently (as in the last 10 years or less) have managed to create completely new games that are on par to other being made during the 80s.

Making that hardware isnt that expensive, but making the SDK and the games is way more expensive and difficult.

No doubt, after all like 90% of all internet startups during the late 90s bubble where just fronts for drug money laundring.

Yeah but with most of the parts and all the design and technology (hell, even the very assembly process) coming from overseas.

Is hard to make your own tech when you dont have any engineers or programmers around...

If you take a look at most of the IT industry these days you'll see that the most succesful individuals lack any superior degrees, or have some but from not so prestigious schools.

Is all about actual experience and knowledge what edgy tech companies seek these days, not a diploma with a logo from a fancy university.
