GoDaddy are terrible. Regardless of their claims, their founder Bob Parsons is an idiot. And regardless of that, they're a terrible company. They're full of cheap sign-ups that will be whacked up when you renew, trying to auto opt you into things you don't want and making you pay for services that don't work (e.g. trying to secure a domain that expires - never gonna happen).

Also terrible - 1 and 1. And, to be fair, most well-known hosting companies aren't great. If reliability is important to you, you want to look at where the server is hosted and how many people are using that server. Don't be fooled by cheap offers for unlimited everything - that just means lots of people are using and abusing their equipment.

I've been using HostGator for 1.5 years so far without any issues.

    DREAMHOST

That’s all you need. Dream Host offer good speeds for your site, fantastic customer service and for as little at $10 a month, unlimited bandwidth and storage! I've been with Dream Host for about 5 years now and have never had any issues or regretted being with them. They really are a great hosting company.

take a shared, annual and cheap hosting plan (for example the ~3$ month at namecheap). You don't need unlimited resources, VPS or other exotics plans (I'm on webfaction but I would recommend it only to a command-line friendly programmer).

I've heard good things about Bluehost. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I am no longer fooled by the "unlimited storage and bandwidth" thing. Ive been reading some and they have all sorts of tricks, likely hinted in fine prints in the contracts that no one read, to force you to get a more expensive plan if they feel you are too heavy on their resources.

The thing is however that 99% of users of cheap shared hosting will never run into those limits.

I'm in the market for a web hosting service. My website is only about 80MB though, so I don't need a huge amount of storage space.

I use Bluehost for my hosting, got my domain address from Dreamhost as they had a special going on.

No issues with Bluehost so far and there customer service were quite helpful when I was setting up stuff on there in the first place.

Though I've pre-paid for a couple of years for both so I haven't had any issues with bills from them.

The only thing is that bots keep refreshing shit and a decent amount of known ones were using bandwidth on my scans section on Stalking Insanity so I've had to make a massive log blocking them to avoid bandwidth spikes of larger files as the well known hogging bots weren't being automatically blocked. That's literally, my only complaint but that could be expected with any host I suppose.

Well he hasn't been the CEO for like 2 years. Now they are owned by silverlake group. Same company who bought out Dell, Groupon, NXP, Sungard and Zynga. I have worked(keyword worked, I have moved on to a new job in the past year), for GoDaddy for 9 years. From experience, they aren't the evil company everyone makes them out to be. And the former CEO; Bob parsons, is probably the nicest guy you would ever meet. He's just a redneck who likes hunting, and has alot of money. We have all probably done worse than hunting rogue elephants; in other ethics areas.

Additionally, I first started when there was 200 employees, now there is 4,300 i think. So its a different company, and basically 1 hand doesn't always speak to the other. With the sopa thing, they supported it in the beginning when it was un-perverted by congress, then change their mind after they found out they were still listed on the bill. There wasn't any backpedaling, just a little WTF and a day later, they were like hell no were not supporting that shit.

All in all any company that big is going to have issues with stepping on toes, and pissing off people.

I also think that most of the GoDaddy Thrashing has to do with them being one of the biggest ( possibly the biggest ) player. I personally was not that offended with the elephant thing. That elephant was going to get shot one way or another. That is what happens to them when they rampage farmland.

A few years ago when I had my GoDaddy account I read a bit of the Bob parsons blog and kinda liked the man. I just think there might be better alternatives than GoDaddy right now, even If I feel my past experience with them was great. I even asked for a refund 7 days after auto renewal becauyse I decided I wanted to cancel my account at the point and they fully refunded me under 24h, No questions asked. I mean, I bet it would not go like that with every company.

GoDaddy also like being controversial for the sake of publicity and some people do not like it obviously.
