weird blue/black 3ds?

so my mother bought a blue 3ds, not much longer we saw it looked weird, it had a blue case with black buttons, and it had a different model number.. a normal 3ds is usually ctr-s-usz-cX this 3ds had a model number ctr-s-usz/m1-c2.. it also has a blue band over the cartridge area where as a normal 3ds has a silver band.

 

Looks like someone repaired it with parts from a black one, http://ngenerals.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/3ds-cobalt-blue.html this seems to be the normal version.

 

My guess is one of the cobalt blue luigi mansion 3DS systems that someone swapped some buttons from a black one on.

 

like i said, this doesent have a silver band though.. and the screws look untouched aswell..

 

now that i look at it.. all of the blue plastic is one color... the cobalt has a fading color..

 

i noticed it was a bit hard to see it so i edited the image a little to be able to see the colors better..

 

Kind of looks like there Display Test Units
https://gbatemp.net/threads/3ds-development-hardware.327858/, but I think just a standard unit. What is the firmware listed as in the settings ? I think these units would have a special denotion listed.


I think the original 3ds scratched the top screen when closed and they put out a fixed version too could explain the serial.

Edit: Also these units have special software like devmenu in the home menu

 

Interesting find. Does it run the standard 3DS menu or another one ?

im not sure if it had anything special.. when i got it it was pre-formatted.. it had 4.4.0-35u on it at the time.. also did not realize it was strange until i allready put a9lh on it. i will take a picture in the morning

the 3ds is the same color blue everywhere, and it looks pretty much identical to a standard 3ds, but the volume slider is definitely tighter and the lid mechanism is quieter, kinda like if it had some rubber padding in the mechanism..

 

also got off of a call with Nintendo, theu said they cant find anything in their database.. strange.. yes? i would think the people who made the system would know about it.. unless it is a prototype of sorts?

Still tho, you had a low firmware for a while there. I hear that can be useful for things.

Anyway, thanks @AtomizerZero for the link. I didn't know that Nintendo is selling official replacement cases for 3DS.

 

That's something I find intriguing about this myself to be honest. I didn't expect Nintendo to do this themselves.. especially since the colours available aren't released on any of the consoles.

 

You are right, this is pretty strange. I tought official replacement cases where only available for internal refurbishing. But as you said, the fact that the color patern is not used on any commercial version of 3DSs is the most strange thing here. I wonder if they have other colors available. I will try to dig up a little bit.
