Went to Gamecrazy the other day to pick up Advance Wars: Dual Strike, and I saw something odd on the counter behind the register. It was a non-TEST PS2 that was slightly bigger then the 1st edition PS2 that came out at launch. For some odd reason, the base was bigger then normal, and the sides were somewhat smaller then normal. Question is: Is it normal for companies like Sony to create a bigger version at launch, then downsize it without making a heavy modification (Such as the PStwo redesign). Thing is, this is the first time I have seen a somewhat bigger PS2 then normal.
Fairly sure. It wasn't standing on anything, and it just seemed taller. Then again, it could have been one of those old case mods for the older PS2s.
That's what I was curious about. I wasn't sure why a game store would even have a TEST PS2. My guess is that what you saw was the result of bad eyesight .
yea... "mommy I don't like that TEST on its side, all my friends ps2 has PS2 on its side..." "ok Timmy let's go to gamecrazy and exchange it to the one with PS2 on its side..." ... "ok I exchange it for this used one. They also gave me $15 store credit so I bought this game for you as well..." "thanks mom! you're the best!"
While some employees might recognize a Test system a chain store's set pricing system wouldn't let them pay any more than a standard PS2. That's if they'd even take it. You'd have to be real hard up for cash to sell one at a store like Gamestop or Gamecrazy.
or someone who doen't know why this ps2 looks different from other ps2 nor it runs imports without any kind of mod as well... maybe they exchanged thinking it's broken since it wouldn't play their DVD movies...
I may try to go back to gamecrazy sometime this week and see if it is still there. Unfortunatly, most of the staff that works there are just workers and not actual gamers (For example: The local EB that I used to work at only has gamers working there, and I know most of them), so I may not be able to get pictures.
I assure you that if you tried to turn in a PS2 Test at Gamestop or EBGames, they'd stay the hell away from it.
