Here's a rarity at least as far as I know. Getting a Red ring on on your 360 and actually knowing why...

Here's what happend. I'm playing Call of Duty 4 while there was a storm brewing outside. woooooooom red ring. I turn the system off switch plugs power back on all is well.

That was last night this morning Playing Devil May Cry 4. same thing I turn it off wait (it was right after a power outage) turn it on working fine.

    So one cause is power.

So my question to you have you gotten a red ring and actually knew why?

Only had one red ring...that was in August 2006 on my launch unit 360 while playing Dead Rising for the very first time.
Launched the game, played for about 30 seconds, and suddenly the video just scrambled and the console reset. No power failure, spike, brownout, or any other possible outside interference that I could discern.

I had been playing Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for a few days prior to Dead Rising coming out though...Backwards Compatible games usually run with the fan running on low speed. Perhaps that was the initial spark that caused the RROD. Either way, I don't care. My console was promptly replaced and I was back in action a week later.

To date, I've not had an RROD rear its head ever again.

Everytime I got the RRoD I knew exactly why. Because the thing was a piece of shit. Pretty obvious really. But most RRODs that persist are because of bad electrical contact usually between the motherboard and GPU. I don't see the big deal really, just fuck it and get a new one. It's not like it's your baby. It's more like your whore.

My power went out at a LAN and everyones 360 except mine had a nice red ring on it when the power came back on 3 seconds later. I was on a surge protector. It was pretty funny seeing the shock on there faces, stuff worked fine on reboot though.

Yeah, that article is a kind of 'No shit Sherlock' piece however! I think by now every 360 owner in the land is a nervous wreck. Love the consoles output (when it works), but detest the original unit's hardware because it was so flaky!

The last 360 I obtained was a Halo 3 LE and it is now roughly 9mths old and still doing ok. I don't use it as much mind you, however it is fully functional and not giving me any cause for concern.

The PS3 gets used solidly for hours at a time, either for Bluray film or playing games. Not one issue and it has thus far outlasted several 360 units.

I know where my money is at hardware wise and frankly there are plenty of decent PS3 titles out now. If only they'd lower the PS3 software costs so that it mirrored that of the 360 and Wii, then I would be buying more titles and probably just sell on my 360 tbh.

I got a Red Ring when playing Oblivion. But it was Storming outside at the time and it didn't come back when I tried later.

Mine is dead now (I get a replacemnet, and I sold it as it arrived), and my previous two retail, also died. Thanks Microsoft for making such piece of shit, as MottZilla says.

PD: If you run your X360 with the sync button pressed, and then push the open button rapidly, it tells you the problem with a code of lights.
