As we all know, part of the fun of collecting consoles are how they look. But what console do you really like the design of? For me, it's probably the GameCube. In an era of rectangular prism shaped consoles, out comes this little cube-shaped oddity that came in a variety of colors. It even has this weird handle on the back. The controller panel is rounded and sticks out a little. I don't know, I just really like the design, very clean and very unique. and despite it not being in my top 5 favourite consoles to play, I actually really like the original Xbox's design. Sure, it looks like one of the black boxes I mentioned earlier, but you you look closer, it's aftually made up of slightly curved edges. This gives it a much softer, more unique look than say the PS2. It's also got a large "X" raised up in the middle with that sexy jewel in the center. How about you guys? What consoles do you like to look of and why?
I love the look of the original Xbox as well. I just wish it were a tad smaller. It takes up soooo much space. Haha.
I also like the Gamecube, although the Panasonic Q looks even better. Still, some i like and easily remember: - Wondermega RG-M1 - I don't think a console can get any cooler than this. - PC-Engine Duo R / Duo RX - Also really amazing design. - Japanese Sega Saturn (Model 1 - Gray) - It's just cool. - Japanese Mega Drive + Mega CD combo (Both Model 1) -The best console + add on combination ever. - Super Famicom - Why Nintendo of America didn't used this design?! - Master System - I reckon is mostly nostalgia, but i loved how different it looked in comparison with the NES, the famicom and all the clones that were sold in Brazil. - PlayStation (Model 1) - It wasn't cool like the Saturn, but i do like it's simplicity. - Xbox 360 - A huge improvement over the original Xbox and the faceplates were a cool customization feature. - PlayStation 4 - When the design was revealed i thought it was ok. When i got the white model, my opinion changed a lot. It's amazing. - Philips CD-I (Serie 400) - Don't know why, but i always thought it was a cool design. - Panasonic M2 - Too bad it was never released.
Xbox for it's aggressive design. Xbox One for it's extreme modern look, and moving away from odd sharp shape. Saturn for it's round clean shape for it's time.
Clearly this one. Sega Wondermega is a close second, but I prefer the simplicity of the first Duo. It was the first console that looked truly modern at the time.
I like these N64 consoles very much, because I love clear, see-through things ! This might seem weird, but an original Xbox 360 with a clear case looks badass to me.
-Gamecube, especially the Spice Orange one -Sega Saturn, especially the white and clear ones (even though I've only got two games for mine) -Virtual Boy, even though it's a pain in the ass to actually hunch over and look into it -Not a "console" per se, but the Neo Geo Pocket/NGP Color
I really like the design of the first PS1s (the dark grey ones) as well as the design of both PS2 revisions. If I will ever go ahead and realize the pc-in-console-case i want to do at some point, itll be with a PS2 case
I'd say the Gamecube, but the Hudson PC Engines look freakin' cool. If the NES didn't have that stupid loading mechanism, I'd praise it because I can game and stack stuff on top of it.
MK1 Mega Drive. There's just something so solid and powerful about the way it looks. Don't care for the MK2 at all.
I don't think Sega made a bad looking system. The Genesis model 1 looks like it'd be perfectly at home on a late 80s entertainment center, the model 2 is sleek, sexy, and black (the model 3 was Majesco, and doesn't count). The Saturn looked like a hugely beefed up Genesis 2 in shape, if only the buttons had matched the Genesis, and the Dreamcast has a great shape to it.
