If OP doesn't emulate, take 360 and Dreamcast. Still, though, China is PAL, so your consoles might not be useful at all.
Well, can't argue with that! I was just kidding with the PSP comment, but you know you can't say the PSP is the best modern console for shooters and expect to get away with it
Save space and buy some consoles when you get there. Plenty of 8bit and 16bit clones there for cheap.
When I went to PR China in 2001 - 2003 I took PS2 and DC, but they were current gen consoles at that time. There were mountains of games in the markets for both systems (copies, of course) and, given how much ps3's and 360's would cost over there, I suspect they're still current gen systems Both systems have stacks of games, esp PS2 - so there's no running out of games to play. Just make sure the PS2 is modded... or get it modded for peanuts when you arrive. Good luck.
I'd rather give myself a vasectomy with a rusty spoon that have nothing but chinese clones as my only gaming for 9 months. Yes, buy clones. They are awesome and sometimes you'll find decent old games in the multicarts. But for the love of Segata Sanshiro, do take at least one decent console. I stand by the Dreamcast. Though it'd be cool to take a second one.
Take the lot and buy clothes when you arrive (edit: and if OP plays the real thing, disregard clones!)
I'd buy crazy-ass clones and pirates. Just for the WTF factor. Like if I saw a copy of Super Mario All Star Land 3: Adventure Island, I'd get that. Or Sonic vs. Hitler. Something crazy.
Personally I take an first release PS3 with me so I can play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games. Or if I want to travel light then a PS2 slim as there is a wider range of games on the PS/PS2 then any other console on the planet. Although handheld wise I take a Gameboy Color and a Pokemon Mini. Next in line would be a PC Engine as they are small, esp card based games...
