this is what i see as a budget title

1: a game that has had little to no effort put into it and just there to make a quick buck (e.g ninjabread man or dogs life etc)

2:a game thats usualy sold less than £20(or $40 in the us oh and this does not count older games i mean newer ones on like wii or 360 etc)

3: a game that is made by a budget developer (e.g data design interactive)

what do you consider a budget title

Dude, you need to slow down on the thread creation. You've been starting like 1 thread per day.

Hahaha, I thought to myself while looking at the recent posts... I bet that's a thesonygamer3 thread! The lack of any capitalisation on the title gives it away!
That said, I use exclamation marks on every post. Full stops seem dull in comparison now! :stupid:

Also Baby's Day Out for Mega Drive (I don't think it actually got a release - thank god!)
Action Girlz Racing looks pretty bad too, I would not buy it, ever!

If it is a Simple Something game it is a budget title with 60% of chances to be crap. Also it's easy to spot budget crap from PS2 505 Street (which brings over some Simple 2000 titles), there are more notable publishers but I forgot the name of them.

How many Romancing of the Three Kingdoms games are there? Has anyone played them? I see a franchise that nobody talks about...my guess is that the whole series are budget games.

And they aren't exactly the most insightful either. Like, not at all.

One of my favorite series that I still play to this day. :/ They are especially fun if you have someone to play with. The original NES version has claimed so many hours of my life.

Too bad the most recent one is was only released for PCs and not officially translated.

Actually, you could not possibly be any further from the truth.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms has been developed by Koei in the mid-1980's and has received a countless amount of sequels and spin-offs. Yet, it does not qualify as a budget title by any means.

    a) Koei's simulations had always been very expensive upon release. The Famicom simulation titles did cost up to 15'000yen (twice the price of a Contra cartridge) and even CD-based Sangokushi games rarely retailed for less than 9'000yen (most titles were 4'800-7'000).

    b) Sangokushi features a massive amount of historical detail in its simulation, making it particularly interesting to the more mature audience with higher purchasing power

and c), people do (did) talk about it quite a lot - in Japan, and among genre fans.

In the home micro days, "big box" titles were full price, whereas budget games were in a regular cassette box. You couldn't really say that an indie developer would be responsible for budget games, because it wasn't always true. The likes of Codemasters and Mastertronic produced them AND big box titles. Sometimes, you'd even get an older title re-released as a budget title.

Such titles didn't really exist in the cartridge era, although you did get unlicensed games. Jump forward to the PlayStation era, and once again you had budget companies. As you'd expect, budget refers to the RELEASE price - it's a cheap line. Think of games developed/published by the likes of Blast! Entertainment, Phoenix Games, Midas Interactive Entertainment... the kind of company that often put out games at the end of a console's life.

Just because it is a budget title, that doesn't mean to say that it's going to be bad or have poorer elements. It is inevitable that a game that's going to be, say, £9.99 is developed by a smaller team on a smaller budget in a shorter timescale, and so you shouldn't expect amazing graphics and complex trickery. It doesn't mean it's going to be a bad game, though - there have been some great budget titles!

I'd say most of the Shovelware games puttin out for the Wii are crappy budget titles to me! & @AleffCorrea I'm guessing that developer your trying to mention were no other than "D3 Publisher" i assume? Also about half of the Simple 1900 or 2000 series aren't really bad imo they're a couple of very good titles made by them so far ;-)

I think (for new console games) under $30. Last gen it was usually $20, but I haven't seen many new games released at that price point.
