Title says it all :110: Not sure if any you know but if you are like me living in near Sheffield in the UK we have had a huge amount of rain fall and at the moment things could get worse if the dam near me bursts we wont have any power for days. Times like this makes me really happy I have a PSP and now I know that it was worth every penny to buy it

last powercut we had was the week before xmas and i accidently severed one of the wires to the main fusebox, so i sent my wife and kids off to her parents and waited in the freezing cold for7 hours surrounded by candles for the electicity board to come and repair it

and my ds was a godsend!

Light a bunch of candles and read a good book.

My old p3 650 laptop supports dual batteries, 8 hours of battery life baby. That is when both are holding their charge, one was a knock-off batt so it tends to run dry if you aren't actively charging it or using it.

Fortunately power cuts never happen in Holland but when I was in Sudan... oh man. Taking a dump in the middle of the night and suddenly the power cuts and you're in the pitch black darkness. Usually I would just sit around and swat the mosquitoes until the power came back on, or take a walk.

For those with an electric stove it is a great time for some outdoor grilling.

The plane I'm on is turned around, and I have to land in LA, find myself a hotel for 2 days and chill the fuck out. (This happened to me in that Earthquake in Hawaii last year). Sucked. Apparently every light in the city was out, as well as our elevator up to the 39th floor.

I used to play portable systems via candlelight. Now I play my PSP and DS during power outtages.

When the power here was out for 15 days (during a BAD ice storm) I read the books that came with Lunar 1 and 2 about 600 times. :p

HOLY DEATH! I am sorry to hear that! Nice long walk up the stairs then, eh? Hurray for Spontaneous Exercise!

At least twice a year the city turns off the power to my neighberhood to perform whatever "Random" Maintenance that they must do. So when this happens I always have my DS handy. Or just go biking/hang out with friends!

If we have a power cut I praise God for Japanese mobile phones ! Digital TV & radio, games, internet and of course a phone. Best of all we have a device from the goverment that will power mobile phones just by winding it up ! Very handy in case of an earthquake.

I carry on playing, as my consoles are hooked up to a UPS! :icon_bigg

Seriously, if I'm playing in the den, the consoles in there are hooked up to a 1500VA UPS unit, which depending on what else is on at the time, will keep going for a while. Long enough to get to a save point, anyhow. The 325VA UPS in the living room is mainly for the DVRs/power smoothing & won't last for too long.

Last time we had a major power out (about 4 hours), it happened early in the morning, about 2am. Once I realised that it was going to be a lengthy disruption, I shut everything down & went outside & watched the stars, in what was then almost perfect dark conditions. I was really wishing that I owned a decent telescope at that moment...

Well, I was stuck in LA, so I was fine. My wife walked up twice though!

I don't know were you live in Holland but I get them a few times a year! usually with different reasons like old house shit happens/ I shortcircut my stuff frequantly ;-) last week because of the lighting I had no juice for an hour or so and we got the occassional power outage of the whole neighbourhood so they do happen! but when they do they usually dont last longer then 4 hours so enough time to enjoy my laptop / gprs internet and I love to blast music on my battery powered speakers connected to my laptop just to confuse the neighbours!
though I have no PSP or DS to keep me busy, I don't like handhelds :/ as they would only be used by me during the occassional power outage or on a long ass flight...

I used to live in Breukelen (between Amsterdam and Utrecht) but I've been living in Leiden for over two years now... can't remember the last time I had a power cut, it must've been years ago. Granted, I tend to be out during the day, so if something happens in the early afternoon I probably won't notice. Some areas in Leiden did get a rather nasty power spike a few months ago, but I wasn't affected.

The only time I've been without power for the last 10 years was when the Nuon came by because the wiring in the building was to receive maintenance. Gruesome 10 hours without electricity in the middle of the day, brrr. Thank God I had just received a batch of DS games the day before ^_^ . Although the worst part was that I had forgotten they were coming, so they rang the door, telling me I had 5 minutes to get ready before they turned the juice off. >_>
