I've gotten on a bit of a handhelds kick lately...probably from drooling over DS...and PSP. So, recently, I bought a NGPC and have spent more time with my Game Gears...but now, I'm looking into Atari Lynx. I can get a used, loose Lynx for around 40 bucks, or a NIB one with 5 games, AC adapter and a Link cable for around $115. I've personally been blown away by the quality of the hardware itself, and all of the cool western style games on it. Anyone got any opinions/advice on Lynx? I'm sure that theres some Atari collectors out there that have some input.
my first handheld, after the G&W era. i got a lynx before i got a GB. when i was a child, i was just fascinated of this colorfull mode-7ish piece of portable arcade :smt023
an amazing system which still amazes today. The sound quality is superb and the games have a degree of complexity seldom seen in handhelds. Very unique and back in the day, a must have - especially california games (it was california games right? not some variation? I just recall the Bmxing down hill). Also slime world and klax.
Yeah, It's definately a nifty piece of hardware, and of course I will be getting Slime World and California Games (Yes, it is California Games). With neato graphics (hey, I was young) like these, I don't know how I picked Game Gear over Lynx back in the day... How do those deals on the system sound?
I love my Lynx Get "Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure" for it, its my favourite game for the Lynx :smt023
Personally, I never felt it offered much. The majority of the games I've played on Lynx have been pretty dire, and there certainly aren't many stand out titles. The graphics were decent, the screen's pretty good, but the quality of the games was never up there with the GB. That said, Scrapyard Dog is a reasonably good platformer and you should grab a copy if you get a Lynx. STUN runner is also worth a look. How much should you pay? As-new in box is going to set you back a fair amount, £40 and up here in Britain with a game or two. You can get one loose with a handful of games from ebay for about £25, obviously boot sales prices can be lower.
Everyone at my school had one cause we were all toff richo's.......not that i was....or had one. Had one later for a bit, I think it's great today. If you like American Atari arcade games, its gold.
what? you say you can pay 40 bucks for it? and that lynx is very good? dAAMn! i saw one in a flea market, 7 bucks (canadians bucks) with a game , batman. i whanted it , but i decided to wait and see around if there wasn't any other good deal. i though the lynx wasn't agood system so i wasn't totally decided to pick it. one hour later , still didn't found any good deals, so i've decided to go where i've found it to pick it .... yes, it wasn't there anymore.. Sh*T! :smt022
I loved playing Cal' Games on the lynx. Also that Gate Of Zendar or something. Oh, and then there was Electro Cop. Yes, the Lynx would have been a great system for it's time if it was not for it's huge size. I remember the one I played on was a right pain to get the games out off. Yakumo
Well, I'm really tempted by a NIB one (model 2) with five games and a carrying case for $125. Does that sound so bad? Edit: Oh yeah, I'd probably get a few more games on top of that too...being Paperboy, Todd's Adventures in Slime world, Electrocop, and Xybots...so, it looks like I'd probably be spending around 160 for a system, accessories, and 8 or 9 games.
Send your Lynx ashtray my way! Oh, and I'm gonna be waiting on a Lynx I think. I like the games, but I don't like laying down that much cash. I'll throw some cash into NGPC i guess.
I got my Lynx for 9 euros (with Rampage) at some market stall that oddly sold only perfumes and stuff... however, when I put in (rechargable) batteries it wont work, with a generic AC adapter it does boot but doesnt seem to respond to any buttons :smt009 Its pretty rare nowadays in Holland. Anyhow, I remember Edge writing "Zendocon alone is reason enough to get a Lynx" (Zendocon being a shmup, if I recall correctly)
Nah, Raiden and several other games were canned. Here's a review tho - http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~shmups/shmupsforum/viewtopic.php?t=9070
it's normaly it doesn't work with rechargable batteries, or if it does, for not a long time. because after a short time, the voltage of a nimh or nicd batteries fall down to 1,2V each cell. unfortunatelly, this is not enough to supply the lynx.
