Well ? I was thinking about this earlier after chatting with a friend about how bad the service was in a local store. So what would you guys like from a games store ?
Robot staff. Videogame store staff think they know something. Perhaps 1 in 50 do, kill them. A videogame store should sell videogames too, cheap pal ones.
I'd appreciate them having at least one employee that doesn't recommend Madden to every single person that walks into the joint. If someone wanted that waste of space he'd ask for it like the unwashed rube he is.
... A place without fanboy salesmen would be nice. Every time I walk into a store and buy a game for a DC, Saturn, or any other older system I get some speech about how the Xbox or PS2 totally r0x and has super graphics and every other console sucks. Most don't even know the technical specifications for said console they love though.
Good idea :smt023 Seriously, a game store must have games, no matter which system. Game stores in Brazil are mostly PS2,Xbox and Gamecube, and new and sealed. To get older stuff, or used, you have to check game message boards, 2nd hand stores or mercado livre (brazilian ebay)
I already have a magical video game store. They'll buy anything as long as it works, they're knowledgeable, and they always have a good selection of things. My only gripe is that they sell rarer things in bundles. They sell their 3D0s and Old atari stuff with bunded games. It's understandable, because someone might buy the games and they'd get stuck with a system. I'll point em out if you're ever in Columbus, Ohio!
My local gamestops are slowly phasing out their 16bit games and NES games. They still sell PC games. One store has a lot of PC games. I need to go there to see if they have some old PC games I really want.
I got in an argument with a fanboy at gamestop once. He said gamecube was a childs toy since the cds were smaller. Then he said xbox and ps2 are "adult" toys. But anyone that works at the gamestop close to us is a lunatic. Note to AWS. Did you know Texarkana got a new gamestore? Its called "electronics Botique" and it has A LOT more variety and not the jacked prices, like the good ol' gamestop. ( Really, they sell "hot" items for more money than advertized. ) :angry Its right next to the new target bulding. :happyhap:
One where they dont have asses , the people know what they are talking about, and have a good selection of used games(mostly from the 32bit and 16bit era) as well as a good selection of import games.
A game shop should have staff that don't talk complete bollocks. I remember one guy telling me that the Saturn version of Virtua Cop was FMV and that Time Crisis on the PSX was real Time making it a far better game. Yeah, what ever you sad man :smt071 game shops should also have a wide selection of all systems not just a shit load of one system and then a small corner dedicated to the others. Yakumo
don't get me started i have 2 gameshops nearby that sell old nes, snes genesis and so on and ask $15 for a god damn mario bros/duckhunt cart :angry
I too wish they carried retro hardware/software, were able to handle imports, and had a staff that knows what the hell a wonderswan is... its sad when the manager doesnt even know....
Most gameshops only know the playstation and newer, even the dreamcast is a big blank for most of em, although one of my local gameshops has superb staff. Both guys diehard gamers, they are usuallly playing streetfighter 3 third strike on the dreamcast on a big projection tv :-D
I'd just really like to be able to walk into a store and buy a PCEngine/Saturn/Dreamcast/MVS game off the shelf. The import situation in the UK is shocking. The only places ppls have to get their games from really are Ebay and www.videogameimports.com or Raven Games. All the chain stores are basically Sony land. Game - sponsored by Sony. And they don't sell DC/n64 etc anymore, but still have a huge PSone section. I've had game store staf chuckle at me before when asking for import Dreamcast/Saturn games. I'm met with a 'WTF do you want those for, get a PS1/2'. And asking for PCEngine and NeoGeo results in blank 'WTF' expressions. I've even been directed to the PC section. No fool, P C E N G I N E!! The tiny ikkle white thing. Blank expression. God help us all. We used to have a Telegames store in Peterborough, but they moved away about 10yrs ago. Gutted.
After compiling a little list earlier it would have to go something along the lines of :- * A good selection of new\pre owned (notice how all shops use this instead of second hand now hehe) games for the current consoles. * A decent retro section. * Staff who are unbiased, helpful and have a good knowledge of what they sell. * Console repairs and upgrades with no legal issues * Misc sales - VG related - Clothing, DVD`s, figures etc. Not too much to ask for hey. I would love to add import stuff to the list but Ninty and Sony are not too friendly to retailers who do so. Some arcade cabs to play would be nice too. Staff in the local area near me are ok in the Game stores and one of the indie stores but in Gamestation they are just complete bastards. I have had lots of trouble in there with the staff (not only me but most of my friends) at the moment they are on an anti Sony trip which means everything PS2 related will basically be slagged off to high heaven. Fair enough but put any fellings aside when in your workplace, the staff were even willing to lie about XBox and GC releases I bought a PS2 for my brother as I had loads of credit notes for Gamestation and was told don`t bother as it was an awful console, even when I explained my brother has dozens of PS2 games his response was "your wasting your money, the Xbox has better games", infuriating. When I explained he really wanted San Andreas when it`s releases I was met with "it will be released on the Xbox at the same time as Rockstar are not happy with Sony". HAHA Bottom line I buy all my new games from Game now who seem to have staff who just shut up and do their jobs and have lower prices
