like someone said earlier, a place where they know games ..not that they pretend to. i already heard a seller telling the other kids that the game cube was for kids because it have bad graphics (wtf? ) he said: Look at Zelda TWW, graphics are as bad as a playstation game! its because kids don't know games, so they don't care about graphics. That's one of the bigest bullshit i've heard in a game shop. anyway, a good game shop must have retro games , for a reasonable price, alot of retro games. Pre-owned games of this generation too, and not only games that we see everywhere. oh, and real gamers that know what gamming is as sellers. the type that you can discus with him about why ff5 wasn't released in america. that's pretty cool , and rare. :-D
Actually ff5 WAS released in america (ff antholgy, ps1 BTW). The only one that america hasnt seen yet (retro) is nes ff3. I dont know if bahamut lagoon would count or not, though. However, im pretty sure you knew about ff anthology. Just making sure...
Hard Off is like that all the time. You know that I bought Saturn Bomberman Fight the other day for 350 yen? Well in the main Saturn section there it was again for 1600 yen :smt043 Hard Off is such a great place for mismarked items. You'll almost always find the same item marked downat two or three different prices. The guys in there seem to know nothing about games but they do know the classics. When I bought the Thunder Force Special edition they were like "Ooh, this guy has taste" :-D Yakumo
If only they went by what the price sticker said, not the bar-code. I'd have a huge collection for a total of $50!!
Game thingies! You know long ago I once submitted an application to a Gamestop that a mate of mine Mark used to work at. I tried contacting them and was never called back, I asked Mark about it and he explained to me that I had TOO MUCH game knowledge and that Gamestop doesn't hire people like that, they choose CASUAL gamers that THINK they're hardcore on purpose, that way they can tell them to sell ANYTHING even Madden 20XX and they won't object. Anyway, back in my home town of Erie Pennsylvania (yes, by the Great Lake and no, even though it's gloomy it's not to be confused with Eerie Indiana) there's a store named Endless Enterainment http://www.endlessentertainment.com, an EXCELLENT example of a good game store if ever I saw one! Games for just about every console as well as several JPN and even a PAL import (only Shenmue II), they also hold game tournaments every so often, nothing major but definitley good fun! ~Krelian P.S.: The Electronics Botique in Erie hired another mate of mine Sean SPECIFICALLY FOR his hardcore and unbiased gaming background, good choice on their part.
Re: Game thingies! Im not going to gamestop anymore since a town close to us got an electronics botique. It has more games, more playables, more retro, its bigger, and they dont have casual gamers.
yeah, i know ...but you know, games are better on their original platform heh? :smt045 i have anthology.... but playing it with a psx controller isn't the same feeling, that's the same thing for ff6 (though, ff6 is harder than ff3). plus, they have crappy laging/loading times.
Why were a lot of ff games not released here, anyway? It seemed that within a SHORT time period they made 6 games, but we only saw three of them at first. And then 7 came out.... 7 was overhyped, i guess, a lot....but it probably is and will be my favorite ff game. I hated 8, 9 was good, 10 was...innovative, 10-2...ehh, 11 would be fun to mess around with.
ff2 on nes was near to be realeased here, as you can see on those scans, some adds where made for it: (zoom in of the first scan.) the reason why it wasn't released isn't exactly know. somes said it's because the translation , with all the problems it can cause , was too long, and that ff3 was comming, a bigger game that could make more money than ff3 on the market. ff3? that's darkier .... maybe it was because the 16-bit era was comming, its uncertain. ff5 didn't made the final cut because of the time it took to realise the translation...and because alot of changes where needed for the american market (...more about the dificulty than anything else, like they've done with ff1 , ff4 and ff6). ff5 was suposed to be ff3 here in america, but it was delayed alot of times because of the problems the changes and the translation did. ff6 was translated and finished before ff5 for the american market... so ff6 was named ff3, at the place of ff5 . the ff5 to america project was still in developement, the game was renamed ff-extreme (due to is difficulty ( they canned the changements of difficulty due to some unknow problems. )) ....it was canceled a bit after ,i don't know why. ff7 was indeed hoverhyped, but it's a incredible game nontheless! maybe not the best ff, but one of the best ( in the top four for sure) to return to the topic, we need more import shops in canada! i've never saw one here..... every great game shop must have imports! (like ff5, to make a link :-D ) (i know great game shops that don't have any imports...but they would be even better with imports)
The gamestop near us has a bunch of xbox fanatics in it. They have a 3 or 4 year old demo with halo on it still in the store. They are ruthless to people who try to beat them in blood gulch (just like I am) or so im told. :smt042
Gamestop (Babbages at the time) has sold imports on occasion. Both for Saturn and Dreamcast. Last time I saw Neo Geo sold at Babbages they still offered Silver setups. Waaaaaaaaaaaay back when.
