sometimes its more about personalty, attitude and plain old weather or not they like you... How are your speaking skills? Say for most retail jobs, regular customers, who are nice, generally get hired first if they apply for work. Any stores you frequent that you would enjoy working at?? If you have good telephone speaking skills, I know Apple are looking for "at home advisor's" You can work from home that way too! dont give up man, if you wanna talk just give me a PM
I've had a 'can-do' attitude since ever, i'm just always knocked down all the time. My speaking skills are just fine, I could do with some polishing with phone speaking skills but in person I'm fine. I say way more, and much more polite than some retail people I've had experience with. I've exhausted all near by businesses demanding a position from them, and putting myself out there but none show interest. So by all this it just seems businesses want experience with shit attiudes. It's very tough to stay motivated when it's just all for nothing at the end. Looks like I'll be on welfare forever and not able to follow any dreams I have.
Different country, same problems. I wanted a job at a walking distance so I don't have to use my cars, but seems like there's nothing left in the area. I tried a little further, like 1 hour drive max and got nothing. If it wasn't for the wife, I would have move to another area where work is aplenty. I've been "generously" paid by the government because of a wrongful dismissal and even got a subsidize salary from a government program to start a business, but no financing is available (which is stupid IMO). So I'm back to square one and wondering what to do with my life.
Moving costs money, so people in that situation are fucked either way. I hear that often and bothers me to no end, and you know most the people who say "move to where jobs are" are those that have been working for 5 years or more. They're out of touch. Sorry you're going through the same problems as I am, it's frustrating, even more frustrating when you get BS responses and excuses to why you're unemployed. It's made me think about living a few times.
Job searching is often a catch 22. Need a job because you need money, but you need money to get the job. Oh well, demographics and life expectancy is on our side, unless you live in a region where there's a lot of young people, so an opportunity will arise one day. That's my take on the situation and I have plenty of games to pass time. You know what bothers me the most? Is when somebody tell me "why don't you sell your cars?"! Gets me mad. I had 9 cars 7 years ago, now I keep what's left and nobody can convince me otherwise.
I once worked with someone who was completely unqualified for what he was doing - absolutely terrible at his job - yet he made more than anyone else working on the floor. Reason being, well.. Have you ever seen Office Space? It worked out exactly like it. Management loved him for being blatantly unprofessional and negligent. In fact, everyone thought it was hilarious. He could get away with anything outside of murder. It became a movement and he got a promotion. On the other hand, I was giving it the good old "110%" and got fired. Management disliked me for being direct about problems on the floor and for talking to their superiors. I had some nice feedback and a solid reputation going with the upper management, but someone directly over me thought I was going behind their backs and making them look bad. I honestly wasn't, but it didn't matter. They wanted me out ASAP, and they got their way. It was a real eye-opener. Here I was concerned solely with the work aspect and getting nowhere. He was playing the social aspect and winning it all. What I'm getting at here - if you're a naturally likeable or exciting person, if you have a certain fire, people will go out of their way to help you go to the fringe and back. Even if you are not technically qualified to be there, even if you're the last person that should be there, people find the idea exciting and that's all you need. To the vast majority of the world - logic is boring, something to avoid - emotion is fun and unpredictable, something to prefer (and abuse the hell out of). To most, - Harrison Schmitt is a nobody, Kim Kardashian is a goddess. This is just how the world works. To succeed, first acknowledge that no one gives a shit who you are. Second, convince your fellow man that the opposite is true. Make them feel important. If you can play the emotions of others with your strong hand and logic with your weak, and the reverse when absolutely needed (rare), you can go VERY far. If you can make someone feel happy, sad, angry, and excited at the same time - you're basically getting them high on their own emotions, they'll be hanging on your every word so much that they're practically wrapped around your finger. You can pretty much do or get whatever you want from them. Evil, but true.
I deferred my university studies in biomedical science. The only thing I regret is not being able to deal with people or groups. I fear after the deferal expires in 2017... history will repeat without the option of deferring. At that point I'll probably just... well time will tell.
