    Honestly, what's going on?

After dissapointing games like Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Riders, i thought someone would go to their office and say: " WTF? Can't you just make a decent Sonic game anymore?"

I'm saying this because i had the chance to play some of their latest releases this week:

    - Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis (GBA) - They only needed to make a port of a great game, but they had to hack it. The game is so broken and bugged that made me want to break it (and it wasn't even mine). They did the impossible: Killed all fun of a great classic game.

    - Phantasy Star Universe (PS2 / Xbox 360) - All those delays for this? Not enough missions, online content locked (probably already on the disc, but locked to justify the online payment). Not to mention the Xbox 360 version is exactly like the PS2. So you pay more for game with low quality textures, and still have to play for online (that isn't that good anyway). I haven't played much, but Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast was way better (and i haven't played that one that much either)

    - Sonic The Hedgehog (Xbox 360) - I won't even talk much about this. They took everything that was bad on the Adventure series, mixed with Sonic Riders and Shadow The Hedgehog, and that's it. R.I.P. Sonic

I'm actually glad they don't plan on making a remake of Nights.

Sorry about the rant, but it's annoying to see a game developer continue to make mistakes over and over again. :banghead:

The reason sonic team has become so poor, is the fact nearly everyone who made it the AAA churning game factory it was, has left.

Wasn't Sonic Riders or Shadow the Hedgehog made by a US company?

How did they fuck up a port of a Mega Drive game to the GBA? It isn't possible is it? Did they actually do the port or some small no talent sods like the idiots who did the never ending levels version of Altered Beast?

I don't know about Phantasy Star Universe but it doesn't sound good having to pay for everything ! Phantasy Star Ver.2 on the Dreamcast was amazing ! I played that solid almost everyday online for over a year. That was the last of the great Sonic Team games in my opinion.

They had to change parts, I'm guessing, because of the weird screen resolution of the GBA.

PSO was great until the gameshark/action replay folks gate crashed the party. I wonder if this new game will suffer in the same way.

Seems crazy to release something like PSO Universe in this day and age, with the likes of WoW available. I wonder if it really will see a console release? It's perfect for that kind of thing.

We sure sonic is not just emulated insted? That easly could explain for much of it since the GBA is quite weak to emulate the genesis. While it's somewhat posible it would run poorly which seems to be the case.

I dout sega would spend the time and money to actualy port sonic 1, they would rather just emulate it for the X'th million time.

Believe it or not, it was actually ported. And it feels so nasty like satan himself coded it.

I hope Sonic for the Wii is not a disappoint, this one looks more appealing than any current Sonic game in my view.

For those you that still don't believe, just read some reviews of it (all with very harsh words)

I still don't understand why Sonic Team opted for a straight port of Sonic for the Game Boy Advance when the original MegaDrive version had a resolution of 320x224 compared to the new edition's lower display mode - surely this would lead to sections of certain levels that can no longer be seen, resulting in the platforming faux pas that is the leap of faith (bear in mind this is coming from someone who has yet to play Sonic for the GBA, so please forgive me if this is wrong)? This crime alone is enough to have Sonic Team condemned to the history book, providing the powers that be at Sega are listening! Maybe it really is for the better there was never a sequel to NiGHTS, as this would almost certainly have come after the point when most of Sonic Team's best talent abandoned the proverbial sinking ship.

Like many of Sega's best known internal divisions, Sonic Team rarely makes anything these days. Sonic Rush was actually the work of Dimps, though I've read that Sonic Team ultimately approved the final product. Also, following their admittedly stellar console versions of OutRun 2 all future arcade updates in this series are now the responsibility of Sumo Digital and not AM2. Unfortunately, the difference between AM2 and Sonic Team is the latter's recent disregard for quality control when it comes to its own output. Now that I think about it, the recent AGES 2500 budget series and decline of Sega Rally in its most recent incarnations probably suggests a direction for the company as a whole instead of just its many departments. I can only hope this isn't the case after all...

Seems weird, aye. Quick cash-in comes to mind, which is what the GBA amounts to these days the majority of the time.

Personally, they should have just released a collection game for the DS instead. Granted, I'm sure they could have fixed the lag if they didn't rush the damn thing. Oh well, the Genesis collection on the PSP is a fairly good port of Sonic 1 and 2.

It's amazing how fast they went from making AAA games like NiGHTS, Chu-Chu Rocket!, and Sonic Adventure 2 to crap like Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Heroes, and the Sonic 1 GBA port.

At least i have the incredible samba de amigo to remind me of when they really made stunning games.

Its the only reason i own a dreamcast, its just that good.

"runs off to play samba to relive the good times"

I'm sorry, but I've been saying this for ages.

    Sega blows...now.

It's nothing like it once was, and it's on its way out. It's just a matter of time. I'm surprised they're still in business now, honestly.

And for reference the GBA screen resolution was 240x160. DS would have been a decent way to do an enhanced collection.

Since the demise of the Dreamcast, SEGA is not the same anymore and with Sammy in the loop it doesn't help. I guess all these new external studios developping games on their behalf is part of Sammy's willingness to turn SEGA around...

What they don't understand is that the games during the DC era and before were damn good & now it seems all the good studios at SEGA don't make games anymore, no offence but most of the games if not all made by non SEGA people just plainly suck...

I have more and more the feeling that SEGA is just becoming a brand to be used rather than a proper development house...
