Gasp! I forgot an important one...Tony Hawk 2... I don't know if it was anywhere near as popular anywhere else as where it was in the US...but It was huge here, and I love it...it perfected the first one...and it was fun unlike the third one...it easily fits somewhere in my top 10 games.... Games that have spawned massive competition between my friends and I: 1080 Snowboarding, Crazy Taxi, Tony Hawk 2, Waverace 64... Gotta love the high score competitions.
super metroid, in my opinion, i play through it probably four times a year still. dont think ive got a 100% yet though :Hangman:
Tony Hawk 2 was indeed awesome, I don't think any of the sequels have been as cool as it. And Chief Chujo, I think Yakumo meant FFXI not FFX-2 :smt043 And since we're breaking things into categories, I'm tossing my opinion in for fighting game - Guilty Gear X2. If Capcom made their fighting games as beautiful, fast, and in-depth to master as this, fighting games would be so in, you'd think it was 1992 all over again. Puzzle, it's a toss-up. Bust-A-Move (Puzzle Bobble) and GB Tetris both win, in my opinion.
best game ever? well... my favorites (top 20), and i'm talking i bust these games out at least once a year and re-play them from begining to end. they are as follows in no particular order. 01. the legend of zelda: a link to the past - snes (NOTE: i know i said these are in no particular order, but in my opinion this IS the GREATEST game ever made for any platform. it's challenging... it's fun... the story is good... the characters are good... and the game play is just perfect in every aspect.) 02. super mario world -snes 03. resident evil - playsation (recently replaced with gamecube version) 04. super metroid - snes 05. onimusha - ps2 06. the legend of zelda - nes 07. sonic the hedgehog 2 - genesis 08. contra 3 - snes 09. super castlevania - snes 10. bionic commando - nes 11. metroid - nes 12. grand theft auto: vice city - ps2 (recently replaced with x-box version) 13. golden eye - n64 14. ultimate mortal kombat 3 - snes 15. command and conquer: red strike - pc 16. tekken 2 - playstion 17. strider - genesis 18. twisted metal 2 - playsation 19. donkey kong country - snes 20. super mario bros. 3 - nes as many of you can see i prefer the old school games. to me it's all about the gameplay and fun factor. screw the graphics. full motion video and 3-D polygons do not make a game.
Based on how affected I was, and not on the traditional way of judging games (graphics, gameplay, sound, etc) I'd have to say the Shnmue series.
More votes for Shenmue than I would have expected. Maybe I'll have to dig it out again and see what all the fuss is about... While I agree with the judgements on pretty much all the games here, they're almost entirely console games. I think a bit of respect has to go to id software, for Doom and Quake at least, which both transformed the public perception of the PC. I rank Quake DM as one of the finest gaming experiences on any platform. Other than that, fairly predictable favourites like Mario, (2d) sonic, Gunstar heroes, Super Aleste... oh, and puzzle fighter
The Gamefaqs poll is a joke, really pisses me off :axe: Anyway, my favourite game would probably be "ESP ra de" for the arcade, "Blazing Star" and "Twinkle Star Sprites" for Neo Geo or some other great shooter. :smt023
Its Dificult... My 1s place games are: Castlevania SotN rayer: Final Fantasy 6 rayer: Final Fantasy Tactics Tengai Makyou Apocalipse 4 Justice Gakuen Revolution Disc And Thousand Others... :smt120 I have to agree with Yakumo about this thread... Every Game is the best one, just need someone to like hin.. :smt040
So to do this properly I suppose we would need to have catogories, like best action/platformer, best rpg, best arcade game, best 1st person shooter Maybe there should be a "Most influential" catagory also, becasue you could say that Doom was very a very influential 1st person shooter, it isn't by far the "best." That would probably have to go to half life or unreal or something. I'm not really into the 1st person shooter thing myself. So what catagory does shenume fall under? It's an RPG right? I don't own it myself.
