Yep, website says they have to be a new user who signs up via your link. Tough break.

I have a co-worker who is Japanese. If I say to her that I will give her $150 bucks over cost, do you think she'll do it for me?

Wadda ya mean? You had to pay something each time you placed a bid? I won all my auctions with one bid, so I can't say for sure, but in my case, money only changed hands after I won the auction and chose to pay for it.

She is either in her 50s or 60s, and I already asked her and she said no, mostly because she didn't understand what I wanted her to do.

Yeah, you typically dont pay until after you win, so Im not sure why that is happening.

It must be a way to deter fraud. Or save their asses just in case something goes sour with the seller.

I dont get what is shitty about it? You make a deposit, you bid, if you lose, then you get the money back to bid again?

No, it should be that if the auction is won, THEN I have to pay (but it should be an automatic setup). In this case, I have to pay in order to even bid with no way of getting the money refunded.

Uh if you want a refund, you can do that. You deposit money, which they hold so that they know you have money to bid. They aren't going to win an auction, then have the buyer decide that they don't want the item and be stuck with the bill. If you dont want the money on there any more, then you hit "Release Deposit" and it goes back to your account.

Edit : And I just tested it since I hadn't done it, refunded without issue basically instantly, back to my paypal.

The problem is that they'll refund me in JPY, not USD.

If you don't like that, try Buyee, they don't take anything until you win the auction...

Well you are paying for Japanese yen. Regardless, in Paypal it all got converted back to USD anyway, since they are refunding your USD

It's pretty simple, you make a deposit and you use this to bid on stuff. You can't make bids larger than your deposit. If you win the item, you can use your deposit to pay for the item, or pay for it in some other way and have the money return to your deposit pool. I don't think it's capable of automatically making withdrawals from your PayPal account, at least in my case it tells me my deposit balance isn't high enough to place a bid an I have to manually add to my deposit pool. As I said, I only make single bids, but it seems weird that it deducts from your deposit each time instead of based on your last bid.

This is the kind of response I was looking for, not "blah blah blah, deal with it".
