What is the deal with people that type all in lower case?

I need to rant. This has been getting on my nerves and I just can't comprehend why people are so stupid like this.

Ever notice that the majority of people that are going to be a complete tool/idiot/waste of your time always type all in lower case? Anyone that's going to be trouble and screw things up with you I think at least over 90% are going to be like this. My question is, why the heck would anyone WANT to type like that?

Let's just get one thing clear here. Some people obviously don't have English as their first language. That is understandable if the text they write isn't perfectly legible. Being someone that studied languages, I know that you can't be expected to be perfect at a language that isn't your own when you type. No one however, and I mean NO ONE, has an excuse to type all in lower case. In my opinion, that's the same as getting up out of bed and not giving a fuck what you look like, just go out into the public having not brushed your teeth in your pajamas and screwed up hair, and engage in social interaction with bad breath. No one wants to see that, you're just coming off as insulting and having no respect for the people you're talking with if you did that.

If you know English, you should actually show you damn well know it. For anyone that's learning it and isn't perfect, you still have no excuse for why you'd type like you haven't learned anything properly at all. Surely your own language has periods and capital letters that make it look like you know what the fuck you're doing? I don't think there's any language with the roman alphabet you learn where you don't at least capitalize the first letter, and end with proper puncuation. Yet some people....they just don't get this. And you know what that does? It makes people like me not take them seriously, and consider just ignoring them.

I only start this because I've got a gamecheat of my very own who I was such a dope to continue prolonged conversation with, and am ready to just ignore the asshole. How many here have had bad transactions and just a general complete waste of time with someone like this and didn't make the connection? I can personally say that when I try to sell stuff, I often get someone who just registers, types all in lower case like a dumb fuck, and then never responds anymore. I just actually got some other idiot who was newly registered, typed all in lower case, and after finding out the game I wanted to sell didn't work anymore wasn't for sale anymore, proceeded with "ok sorry. i guess its a good thing since i don't have a paypal any way." This, after they should have read the very top of the post that said "paypal ONLY!" Bravo dumbass, you're just furthering the proof :clap:

It's getting to the point where I think if I ever sell anything I'll just write a disclaimer which reads "If you type all in lower case, get lost". I know I'm not the only one to notice this. Some of these people are adults you know too, my idiot who I was doped into keeping conversation with actually purports he's married and is trying to find a job. If that's actually true...ugh.

 

I've dealt with just as many dumbasses that use proper spelling and grammar as those that talk like 14 year old kids on AIM.

 

Yeah, there's no rationalizing it, it's a mixed bag. Still, the majority of the time, it just isn't worth dealing with them if they're going to not even act like they want to be understood properly.

I will let it slide on msn/irc if it's just a quick small message, but if you're trying to actually discuss something showing poor grammar skills really doesn't make you seem intelligent at all. I swear a grammar test should be required to use the internet. =P

 

I find people who use either lower case or ALL CAPS are mediocre at best, dont put too much thought on anything and tend do a sloppy job in anything they put their hands on.

Tragedy is, this wont correlate with reality, and some of these idiots are very popular and land some high-end jobs anyway.

I've seen my fair share of CEOs writting in lower case and almost no punctuation...

Just to sum it up once. When does English require capital letters?

- Every sentence begins with a capital letter
- For the "I" (that's me)
- The Name of a person
- For Country names, Languages, or specific things/intsitutions etc. (like "Museum of Art")
- Book, Movie, Song etc. names -> words in a title, exept the particles not at the beginning of the title, are in captial letter.
- Titles of people like Mister Mr., Doctor Dr., Captain etc.

Right? More of 'em?

People these days can't use proper grammar on the internet. Well, the majority of them think about it and then there are those who writes like you look at the whole scentence and go all "wtf" and start smashing your keyboard because you don't know what it means. Seriously, god damn it people, use proper spelling on the internet please. If you have dyslexia, tell us.

 

It's ALMOST excusable when using a phone keypad (text messages, etc - if the shortened words are in their auto-complete and are truly quicker to type) but...

All you have to do is get used to typing properly and then it's a damn burden to forget all the rules of the English language.
Like, just there, I forgot to capitolize English and HAD to go back to correct it. Training.

As OP pointed out, I suppose there would be SOME leeway with people whose first language doesn't have capitolization (Chinese, Japanese, other things I don't know anything about...)
but most of these kids are fools from the super west.

 

People that type in all caps or can't use more than one paragraph are the ones that irk me the most.

 

People who type in all caps are usually internet fags.

 

I always do wonder who is on the other side of the craptyping. My best friend for many years types like a complete clot in conversations between him and I, yet is fine elsewhere (I guess this is a moot point, since we're talking about "public" internet communication). I've also got another friend who only types in CAPS, but it is simply part of his personality. He's a perfectly intelligent guy, perfect grammar and such. You can feel him behind the bold letters, every sentence.

So maybe if you got to know these people, it would make more sense... but then on the other hand they're not really helping their case by making it seem like they're 12.

 

I only type in all caps when I'm really pissed off and want to show my fury. There i said it. I feel ashamed when I said I DID write in all caps sometimes. You can punch me in the face now

I admit that I used to type in all lower case (shame on me).
Mostly because of laziness.

Now I try my best to type properly.

Personally I think people who do not use punctuation and only one paragraph are far worse, because that makes their writing hard to comprehend. Some don't even use the space key all too often.

I know that typing all lower case can sometimes change the meaning, too.
Like: I helped my uncle Jack off a horse. <-> i helped my uncle jack off a horse.
If that was the case, even during my "all-lower-case-phase" I typed those parts in upper case.

Another thing is my habit to type a few points at the end of a sentence... I know that punctuation characters are not group-living animals but for innuendos and ambiguities it is OK in my opinion.
And even the biggest grammar police members don't always type in a polished style, ready for printing.

 

I agree with Bramsworth, cause I know how much irritation and rantings that comes to my mind about bad grammar. And well I have had a few rants in the past about bad grammar. The only thing I have not done was mentioning names. But maybe next time I should mention names when it comes native English speakers who writes a horrible written English, but I can understand if people are dyslexic. Since my father is a person who is dyslexic. And oh boy he has gotten so much shit thrown at him, cause he was not a good speller or reader back in the day before many things. Now my father is a reader in , English which he does not speak. But he uses a digital translator and a Danish to English dictionary to understand that language. And then he reads Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish extremely well. But then again that is because he knows, that Norwegian and Swedish are extremely close to Danish.

 

When I'm on a MSN or in an online game, I always use lower case, it simply saves time, it isn't a fact that proves that I'm stupid. Most people I know that only writes lower case unless it really cares it's for saving time, since not everybody is that much profficient at keyboard typing as us.
