Remember that bloodhound gang song Mope that sampled Metallica's for whom the bell tolls, Rock me Amadeaus and Relax? It had this funny interlude: Awww shit here comes pac man. Hey pac man what's up Me you bitches I'm high on crack wanna freebase? No Pac Man Drugs are bad Pussies *takes a hit* woaaaaaaaaah holy shit *pac man theme plays*
King of Fighters... Although there are some great games in that series, that I absolutely love, it's becoming to much now... No interesting storylines anymore, to much sprite re-use, ugly graphical styles, uninspired music... They need to quit. Since SNK died and became SNK Playmore, a lot of the SNK franchises have been "whored out". A real shame.
KOF isn't even yearly anymore plus XII is going to put Guilty Gear to shame says SNK But yeah SNK needs to give us something new
Hahaha, yep. That would sound right if you were in California! And SNK definately needs to step-up.
It's a close call between Pac-Man and Mario, cuz they both have prolific histories with the merch, but I give the nod to Pac-Man cuz he's on virtually every platform since the 2600 in some form or another.
Yeah! Shasta I think? I remember some contest where you looked for a word in the bottom of the can or something. I drank those when I was a lil' kid with my gramma at the Army Unit in Montana....heheheh, memories...
In terms of older games, Pac-Man is surely the one that has the most. With newer games, Resident Evil and Madden seems to be the cream of the crop (It amazes me how RE4 can go from a GCN exclusive to GCN, PS2, PC, and Wii. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets ported several more times).
theres quite a few but IMO Megaman is the most whored franchise. Not with merchandise and whatnot but with actual games being released i mean lately havn't we been getting close to a megaman game every quarter of the year?
I say FF: Square even went downhill making a big budget movie that used the name but didnt had anything to do with the games. Then theres the dolls, books, toys, more movies, anime, spin-off games, cameos, etc...
"Gundam" actually puts even Rockman/Megaman to shame. There was some estimated number of how many actual pieces of Gundam (or Gundam related) games were sold. Since the Famicom, I think it was a 100 million or something. You have to remember there's like 150 games since they include the Super Robot Taisen series (which sells pretty well).
Gundam was created for that very purpose......To make lots and lots of money for Bandai and Sunrise. The reason Seed is still running? It's the new AC.
Mario is clearly the most whored out (in terms of token games, tie-ins and merchandise), closely followed by Sonic. They love the cock, figuratively speaking.
I agree on the Mega Man front. There's not a whole lot of merchandise to be had, but sheer volume of games is ridiculous. I'll try to come up with a rough count. *edit A quick count and I have found 50 Mega Man games on various platforms. 6 on the DS alone and it's not even that old at this point.
