But apart from my sheer stubbornness I'm now interested to know why it somehow does transfer video yet not audio, while it is there.

For PAL the audio carrier is 5.5 MHz above the video carrier and for NTSC the audio carrier is 4.5 MHz above the video carrier. Because you have a PAL TV the tuner is looking for audio at the wrong frequency and that's why you get the noise.

But my TV recognizes that it's a NTSC signal. Shouldn't it adjust that to?

Just AV mod it already. Easy to do and will solve all the problems along with giving a better video signal.

    RF is evil...

While the video decoder supports NTSC the tuner is probably hardwired for PAL B/G frequencies.

I will, trust me. BTW anyone know a good tutorial.

That just is weird. Then again I take it not many Europeans use NTSC stuff especially over RF.

Try this out. Even has extra stuff for smoothing the video and such. Will require some parts and soldering but it's easy and the parts are cheap. Might even have them in stock if you have stuff like that lying around.

Personally I had best results with the Console5 schematics. Using the above schematics from 80'sfreak, I always had excessive jailbars. 80'sfreak urged me to install an uncountable amount of ceramic caps all over the board to filter the bars out. After about a dozen extra caps I just got fed up with it and tried the Console5 circuit, which gave me better results out of the box.

But hey that is just my own 2 cents worth story, other people swear by 80'sfreak method. But I usually recommend the console5 method. Partly, Ill admit, because I got annoyed by 80'sFreak condescending attitude and crappily written turotial.

That alone is one of the main reasons why I don't visit Famicom World very much.

Just AV modded my famicom, seems to have no jail bars (at least on my only game, golf) and I've got sound. Done with Pikkon's schematic here: http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...t-s-currently-the-best-AV-mod-for-the-Famicom

Yet I miss the sound I had first over RF (and actually doesn't seem to be there normally when I looked at it on youtube), so what is that sound that it made when I moved the cursor around and when the game sets up (again, in golf that is)?

This is exactly the same schematic as on Console5, I made this one too and the jailbars are near invisible. But I also did the "copper foil on ppu" trick.
As for the sound, you can try doing the mods on this page. Unless the problem is from the CPU, it should fix it.

You really don't need the cap for the audio, just wire it up without anything extra and you'll be fine.

well the audio doesn't have any problems but the audio I had over RF, which apparently shouldn't be in golf in the first place, is lost largely. I can still get it if I turn the TV very loud and hear it in the minor interference. It's as if there is audio going over the video channel.
For detail: It isn't doesn't sound like interference, it sounds like interactions with the game but it's all one tone. I get it when the game is set up, ball/character is placed, and when I move the cursor in non-green mode.

EDIT: That's probably noise picked up from the PPU, since there aren't any cursor sounds in Golf.
