I've never seen that particular MD before, but it's most likely a Asian (PAL) Mega Drive. Sold in Asia, hence the resemblance to the Japanese logo and all, but for use with PAL-regioncoded games.

I've got one with the same model number and same design. Came from Thailand, but it did have a different box design.

So this should have a 220v PSU then I assume. What type of plug does it have?

baically the box is the European box and the cnsole is a PAL Asian console. maybe the box and console are not originally sold together?

It definitely a generic asian Mega Drive 2 designed for asian pal regions, they were sent out by sega to there various offical asian distributors.

If it was a EU PAL model, it would have a different shape for the cartridge slot. That why I imported one because it fits PAL and NTSC cart's, without having to use a cartridge converter or widening the cartridge slot.

never seen that exact box design before, thats what I find the most interesting about it.

That's interesting. Does it have a European AC adapter, or a Japanese/American-ish one?

However, the MegaDrive image on the box is not of a European MegaDrive - the European MegaDrive 2 has a different logo, and does not have the red cartridge port.

I would say that too - EXCEPT it shows the same non-EU console on the box pictures. The box appears to be a weird conglomeration of PAL logos and details with a console that PLAYS PAL games but doesn't look like a PAL console.

I think the fact the -07 has come up again means it definitely comes from the same area that Saturn came from. I can't remember whether Hong Kong was already excluded from the 'what is 07' debate, but it would certainly match the circumstances seeing that Hong Kong was a British Sovereignty up until 1997.

Came from a warehouse clearance in Hong Kong.

You can buy mega drive 2 asian model as the picture that IcarusNick post for about US$20-$25 (unused CIB). It's not hard to find and buy in Thailand.
