Stock photo of the TV I have now: 79cm 100hz CRT, with a boatload of inputs: 3 SCART, two of which are RGB compatible and one YUV even (!), all of them also do CVBS and Y/C, and separate S-video & RCA inputs on the side. All of them support NTSC & PAL60, which is why I got it  Has all sorts of digital processing built-in, which unfortunately makes some games look less good - I assume this is because it's less forgiving, just like LCD's. Fortunately most of it can be turned off. Oh, and the sound this thing outputs is amazing
I use a Samsung 22'' LCD HD Ready for Xbox 360 and PS1 right now in my room (I usually don't have more than two consoles at the same time for space reasons). I have a Samsung 37'' LCD Full HD in the lounge too, but I prefer to keep that room "console free".
From tomorrow on I'll use a Toshiba 37" HD-Ready for watching films and for any games since the Dreamcast-era. Older stuff I'm going to play on a ~50cm CRT (sony) as well as there is my PC-monitor that is set to tate mode for some Dreamcast shooting goodness
The Mega Drive is running through a XRGB box. The SFC on the other hand runs direct through SVideo on to the TV. The TV has a option to digitaly enhance the image (in this case double scan lines and noise reduction) but you can switch them all off for that pure classic image  So old shit and new stuff up to 1080i all look good. Took me a while to figure out all the options on it mind you. Bloody obscure kanji plus the missus was no help with it since it was all technical stuff that she just can't understand. Yakumo
I don't see why you wouldn't run the SFC through the XRGB as well. In my experience, old games on even the best 31khz display look like a turd. A clear turd, but still a turd. Arguably better than interlacing on an old CRT, but still.
that's actually already too late:lol: btw: where did you get that screen? i moved to a bigger place recently and looking for some new output-devices^^
Nah, haven't noticed anything to that effect! Then, I'm not as much of a purist as some people around here. I would've been cool with 50hz but I got this unit for a very good price.
100Hz is the worst you can get, when it comes to 2D sidescroller or other games which contain side-scrolling elements.
i got a phillips 32" hdtv for everything my little portable doesnt work no more i use to use it for my md and psone
A little website called Yahoo Japan Auctions. There's a seller that has some up regularly that 15khz/24khz compatible, but not 31khz. He also doesn't guarantee they'll run console games w/o a specific resistor(?) attached. I don't have time to dick around w/a a mod, so I have stayed away from them. The seller of this auction tested it out, and it worked fine. So, I moved in for the kill! Indeed. The Mushihime-sama Futari BL loke test was on a 100hz screen.. made it impossible to play! The lag is only a split second, but that's all it takes.
It came like that. The guy that sold it made it. The only downside is that the monitor's native connector (15-pin RGB or VGA if you will) is on the inside of the encasing. I need to get a screwdriver, open it up, and plug in a VGA cable to play 31khz games. Or... run everything through an XRGB-2 which is an option. Or of course, just make an extension w/ a sex changer which I've not gotten around to buying. As irony would have it, I was looking through some old Arcadia magazines. There was a company somewhere in I think Saitama that had all sorts of arcade parts, and they made monitors like this (although with better casings). I guess they went under.
It'd be a shame to use an XRGB on a RGB monitor, don't do that. Too bad "consolized" arcade monitors aren't available, I'd really like one with a rotating chassis in a pretty enclosure.
it's a video converter. http://www.micomsoft.co.jp/xrgb-2plus.htm those devices allows you to convert an RGB-source into any output-formats you like (> S-Vidoe, AV, VGA @ different frequencies and resolution, depending on the type of converter). up do know there're 3 different models, from different epochs: XRGB-1 XRGB-2 XRGB-3 there're also some other mid-range converters like XAV-2 oder XVGA-xx etc.
The purpose is not to encode RGB into other formats but to decode composite, s-video and component into RGB and upscan it for VGA monitors. They're high quality devices, and the picture looks as good as most CRTs, but it's not quite as nice as a true analog CRT which isn't inherently limited by digital processing.
Can't the XRGB-2 also work as a pass-thru? That's what the original owner did in order to tap the audio off of the 21-pin RGB connector. Mine has a 15khz/31khz light on it, denoting what mode it is in. I've not used it yet, so I don't know exactly what that means... it could be input mode only (but I doubt it as the only input it takes is S-video, composite, or 21-pin RGB).
Yeah, but that's not a good idea because it'll only be acting as a cable, it'll use power and it'll contribute noise to the signal
