Right, but it's an easy way to get the audio. True it would be better to make a converter, but I don't have time for that at all, and my wife flips out when I solder (lead paranoia...we have a small child). I might get someone to make me one down the road, but for now, I think the noise/signal loss will be a good trade off for the sound. I'll let you know once I bust it out. I just bought Mushihime-sama Futari: Black Label so there's not going to be much else getting any play time anytime soon.
Currently i have a standard 21" crt TV for my consoles it has (2 scart, 1 s-video and 1 set of composite connections). hoping to get a vga box of some sort to use on my Iiyama 21" crt monitor as it has 2 vga connections on it
Have a 29" Goldstar from 1997 that believe it or not still looks like when I plugged it for the first time. Also have a 32" WEGA which looks really cool with 480p. I have my Saturn, N64, Dreamcast and GC plugged to the Goldstar most of the time. Will get an HDTV as soon as X360 stops overheating and PS3 gets a game I give a crap about...
Maybe someone that knows more on the subject than me (which would equal about nothing) can comment. Sony's Japanese model Wega comes with AV Multi. Presumably, their European models have Euro Scart w/ RGB. What would entail ripping one out of a Japanese TV and putting it in a US one? I assume everything other than this part and of course a small hole cut in the casing is the only difference. Could be a way for those in North America to get a nice RGB TV.
Sony's lineups between regions are drastically different so I don't think conversions are really a possibility. It's possible that some still do have the MultiAV since probably Sony camcorders can connect to it.
so someone could list some of the japanese CRT models w/manufacturer from the past 5~10y which are able to run on RGB?
Here: http://dempa.jp/rgb/heaven/monitor.html Generally, the computer monitors give better results (and support all three frequencies in some cases) but for X68000 and FM-Towns, you'll be lucky to find anything of decent size. The Wega is the best route (in fact, I have one for sale if you want). The kicker is that the connection is AV-Multi, not 21-pin RGB. Therefore, you have to make/buy a converter. Two places used to make them somewhat cheaply, but both have quit. Here is a Japanese walk through. It's actually pretty easy. Solder points look pretty large. Looks to me as if getting the connector out is the hardest part. You could always pay some of the technically savvy here to do it for you. It is pretty much your only choice for Big and RGB (other than an arcade solution like I have). The Wega I have has a nick on the screen, but isn't very noticeable when playing it. If you can pick it up (Yoyogi Park area) I'd let it go quite cheap!
My new setup since today: 21 inch Sony CRT for PS2 & Saturn-Tate 37 inch Toshiba LCD (hd-ready) for Saturn yoko games / Xbox / MD & PCE (yeah I know, scanlines...).
thx for the offer GP, the connector wouldn't be the big problem, i'm more worried about the transportation of it. but btw, do you have some pix?
Going from a 30inch megaCRT that weighs more than my shelf can handle. Can take VGA but up to 800x600 resolution, S-Video, and Composite. Sucks up a lot of power and weighs over 100lbs. Replacing it with a Sylvania 13inch TV, which will next year be replaced by LCD HDTV with digital TV tuner built in.
I can take some and PM them to you. I was under the impression you had a car... maybe I just thought that b/c you live in Yokohama. What does a taxi cost from Tokyo?
Wouldn't that be even more expensive than the screen itself? I saw cabs with prices like 600yen/km... in the US (nyc) it was like 30 cents which is 1/20 of that. Incredible, just wanted to mention
I got the taxi home the other night. Cost me 5800 yen! The train would only be 480 yen but they'd stopped for the night. 5800 F*ing yen ! Yakumo
heh..yes we have a car, although i'm not allowed to drive it by law, and that's the point. in case of buying it from you, i have to convince my better half to drive all the way up to you evil: < 赤鬼)
Aah... well, I got busted driving w/o a license (hit someone too!). Definitely wasn't fun. How deep in Yokohama are you? I don't live that far from Route 246 (just up Yamate Dori a bit). Assuming there's no traffic (which there shouldn't be next week) it could be quick. I went in a car from my place to Azamino (past Tama Plaza) in like 40 minutes, and the raods were somewhat busy.
About 50 kg or so. But a cab ride to Takadanobaba would be affordable. Hopefully you have an elevator. I sold my 28" RGB monitor to a shmups user before leaving Hawaii, and he lived on the 3rd floor w/ no elevator. O_O Cool pad though.
