Since the holidays are near i was thinking of buying a japanese system, i never had one before and i was thinking about it and it would make my collection near complete, plus i am a import gamer and i only have ps3 japanese import titles and i was thinking i should have old retro ones too.
Get a Japanese PS2. Massive selection of games, and a variety of colors and variants to choose from. Plus it's not too much money. Ever since I got one it's my go to import console for my PS1 and PS2 imports. You will not be dissapointed. Xbox 360 is region locked and you can't get past it without some modding. And besides, he's going to get a Japanese system for imports anyway, so he doesn't even need a boot disc at all... There are much better choices than a 360 for imports...
Ps2 has a great selection of imports and bc compatibility is a plus. If you live near a book off in the US they usually sell them for $60. Japanese GameCube only bother if you can get cheap but Japan exclusives getting harder to come by.
A Japanese GC is not as pointless as it might seem with bootdiscs/Wii Gecko, since AFAIK Japanese fonts only work correctly on a Japanese GC.
you don't need to get a japanese PS2 especially in this day and age, thats what free mcboot is for. honestly just get a japanese 360 if you really want to play japanese 360 titles.
Yea but there is a pretty straight forward region switch mod that boots the gc in Japanese bios and retains the Japanese font to prevent gibberish displaying. Never understood why Nintendo had a Japanese font embedded in bios.
That's exacly what he's saying. He's advising op to get a 360 because it doesn't have a bootdisc to play imports, so buy a japanese 360 to play the japanese 360 games. From this point of view, it would make the most sense to buy a 360. Mother earth to major Tom? Are you getting it? lol
@americandad I got it now. Still, the PS2 workarounds are a pain to deal with compared to getting a different system. For me I've got my NTSC-U and my NTSC-J PS2s and it works out much better than a workaround. Same thing with my Bios modded Dreamcast. Having a console that can play the games out of the box is so much better than a workaround disc IMO
Check what japanese exclusive games are available for each of them. With that sorted out, check what games interest you the most. That will help you decide what console to get.
The Dreamcast is super easy to use imports on (Gameshark works fine, Gameshark Lite, Codebreaker, etc are all great at a workaround, and they will work as burned copies too). Gamecube boot discs aren't hard to find either, and I think (not 100%) if you softmod a Wii, you can play import GC games on it. And softmodding a Wii is easy too. The PS2 isn't as easy to play imports on, and the 360 hasn't been cracked. But while there's thousands of PS2 games that are Japan only, the number of Japan exclusive 360 games is about 50, and some of those (like No More Heroes) came to the PS3 in the US, and others came to it in Japan, and the PS3 is (mostly) region free.
Or better yet get a modded Nintendo Wii and download/install Nintendont Gamecube loader and place the Japanese bios "ipljpn.bin" and then just pop in a Japanese import while in that program and "viola!"
Nah, i most highly recommend getting a softmodded Wii for that plus you wouldn't need a boot disc or sd media launcher product to run them.
@Xboxsushi93 Let me know if you need help deciding on a PS2 model. I've got too much knowledge of the stuff
