Question for anyone here who might know: in a fit of stupidity I accidentally picked up a pirated copy of "Wizardry 1+2+3" for Super Famicom. It's obviously not genuine... but what is it? Picture here: http://i.imgur.com/zyV7nHJ.jpg It sort of reminds me of this flash cart with the side pins: http://www.infiniteneslives.com/img/images/SNESHiLo.jpg But it's not the same. Anyone have any ideas?
Post a pic of the cart too, and the back of the board. That board has some quality components on it. I've seen them from real early bootlegs from china, you'd never get quality like that now.
The back's just got traces. Here it is: http://imgur.com/35RVqhN The case: http://i.imgur.com/6spLi17.jpg The case seems to be just the kind of junk you can find on Alibaba: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Japa...ES-SFC-game-card-storage-box/32651943315.html And yes, that is just a Final Fantasy 6 label with the Wizardry title screen pasted over it *facepalm*
That series of games was really expensive in Japan, I think $120 new. So a bootleg seems to make sense.
Looks like recent production to me. First of all, it's using a PIC to emulate the CIC - and that code only became available fairly recently. Secondly, it's using a 3.3V flash with a couple of diodes to drop down the 5V line - which suggests it was built at a point in time where LV flashes were substantially easier to get hold of than the 5V ones. Can you get a better closeup of the PIC? (the little 8 pin small outline chip on the left).
It's a reproduction cart. My SFC reproduction carts look just the same although mine all use official SFC cartridge shells with the security screws.
Here we go: http://i.imgur.com/HRiGGj7.jpg Took the picture through a magnifying glass XD So where do you get your PCBs? I'm curious what kind of stuff the Japanese homebrew/repro/etc scene uses.
I don't understand the massive interest. They are pretty basic pcbs and with it being so easy to get your own pcbs made at a good price - they crop up quite a bit.
I'm sorry four people in this thread show interest in things that are not up to your personal standards, as usual. Site rules: Respect others or be quarantined. Warnings are followed by restriction. No flaming. If you disagree, do so intelligently. No one likes a complainer, however people will listen to someone with an intelligent discourse. If you're unwilling to put thought into what you say, say nothing. You are quite knowledgeable and help out people with problems, but you need to work on you social skills. Consider this a first warning.
They come from a female "geek" friend here in Japan but she is not Japanese, she's Chinese. So I'm guessing her stock comes from China.
My social skills are fine. who made a random pcb isn't all that interesting or likely to be tracked down. It could be any random fab somewhere and anyone else could make one the same/similar. Pcb software is easily accessible these day, as is the ability to order boards at a low cost. That's why this type of stuff had exploded in recent years. I wasn't disrespectful. I didn't flame anyone. Thought was put into what I said. I said I don't understand why it's so interesting, not that any of you were wrong for it. And then said how it came to be. So not seeing how the rules were broken. But you're the boss.
Nope, it was perfectly justified. He's done it multiple times before; basically puts a damper on the fun.
It must be how you read it (as I don't really see it, neither does hex or a few others in chatbox) It was also posted at 3am after a 21 hour day though and I obviously read it as I intended it to come across. Anyway, not meant to belittle anyone. I just don't think you are likely to find out who's knocking these out. It's probably used by a few fabs. (And done cheaply as there is no proper level shifting). This has been done many times: http://www.infiniteneslives.com/img/images/SNESHiLo.jpg http://retrostage.net/SNES board.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rklY50oh.jpg http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f257/wgpearcelb/IMG_2261.jpg http://www.snescentral.com/1/0/0/1008/Snes8in1_pcb_front.jpg and many MANY more. The english speaking ones are easy enough to track down, but the chinese ones not so much and theres been loads of them over the years. Affordable PCB creation to the masses ends up with this. Look at all the stuff on OSHPark (and this is just the people who shared their stuff, there is many times more people making stuff daily). https://www.oshpark.com/shared_projects I'm quite surprised no one has uploaded a PCB for the snes to oshpark yet. There's quite a few genesis/megadrive ones. @graphique you didnt seem to mention where you picked this up from. Was it aliexpress (obviously going to be a bootleg), eBay or some forum?
