What modchip is this?

Went to Goodwill looking for trouble, found a PSX 5500 with one controller (cord was partially eaten through, may need to replace it), 2 Gamesharks (one older grey box and one newer black Pro box, both for parallel port) and a 5500 series PSX.

I took it apart when I got home because I saw something unusual through the vent slots and sure enough, it's been modded. Looking around, I found this diagram:
    http://www.assemblergames.com/forum...odchip-problem&p=564663&viewfull=1#post564663

5, 6, and 8 seems the same. (6 is actually a bit off) while 1 is on another spot. I'm guessing red is V+ and black is ground so that leaves 5 and 6.

So anyway to tell which modchip is it? MM2? MM3? Old Crow? I don't have a dumper.

PS if it's an older model modchip and this PSX works fine with retail disk, would it be worthwhile to replace it with MM3 chip? I like ppaying RPG games and I don't know if any of those are anti-crow or anti-MM2, etc. Defiantly not stealth model.

This is an older mod for sure. Not any stealth modchip as stealth require more wires.

Just pop in one of the 4 disc of Legend of the Dragoon (good RPG) and you'll will get a message saying you cannot use the game with a modified system. This is assuming that you don't patch the iso with the anti-stealth PPF patch before burning the game.

If you are lucky, the mod is on a 12F508 microcontroller and you'll be able to reprogram it with a newer code. If it's a 12C508 (most likely) then you cannot do anything further with this chip as it is burn-once.

Most of the copy protected games (if not all) do have patches to disable the modchip detection mechanism. So technically if you do not plan to run any originals, you could keep the current mod.

I'm 90% sure its an old crow chip (Only leaving the 10% probability its anti piracy mod chip which only play imports, not back-ups). MM3 (Im pretty sure that goes for an mm2) uses 7 wires on a 550x series and its the first console model to have full stealth capability.

I put the console back together and tested it. It plays USA game fine and plays burned game fine. I haven't tried the newer anti-modchip game.

They're really cheap 4 wire modchips that were popular back in the 90's and early 2000's. Chances are if you get a PS1 from a car boot sale/thrift store or w/e and it's chipped it'll have this one. They don't play games that have that anti modchip deal.

I had about 7 chipped PS1's I got from car boots and they all had this same chip with electrical tape wrapped around it.

MM3 is probably the best, you can find the hex file on eurasia.nu

That's the 4 wire classic old crow modchip. So you can't play anti mod games with that.
For scph 100X series the best chip it's mayumi V1 or V2 or Multimode V2.
MM3 or mayumi V4 are absolutely not reccomended for 100X series.

Also in that topic there's a mistake. 12F50X pic work without problems. I've never had any problems with them. so buy a F series instead C (old, more expensive and not reflashable in case of errors)

When I bought my Net Yaroze system it had an Old Crow chip installed :/

I think they work OK but even MM3 don't defeat the Anti Mod-Chip code in games. For me BIOHAZARD 3, FF8, Silent Hill. So I end up using a Gold-Finger with Mo-Chip check codes stored in it's code database. This is on my SCPH-1000 and SCPH-1001. I removed the Old-Crow from my Net Yaroze and replaced the laser unit for a brand new one.

So in my experience there is never such a thing as truly stealth, but the MM3 boots everything I throw at it. The Old Crow wouldn't boot some things up at all.

Yes, full stealth works just fine - but its been mentioned several times that it doesnt work on the SCPH-100x

Regarding 12F50x - Still personally not had one work, but I did only try 2 different chips. I will try again maybe this weekend.

The only full stealth that work on scph 100X it's mayumi V2 based on the very ancient 16f84.
I mod my psx with 12F508\9 without any problems. So, I think you are simply unlucky Bad XD
Only 2 or 3 times i've needed the by-pass cap.

Its decoupling cap, but its certainly possible its bad luck (or a bad batch of chips!)

I will try it again tomorrow :)

Regarding stealth - I was talking about the MM3 code.

I have the Mayumi v2.1 code and installation diagram. I might try it next time I have a 100x. The code might even work on the 16F628 (which is pin compatible!)

Maybe, my friend tell me that the mayumi V2 don't work on pic16f84a. I hope it work on 16F628, or you can test it for me Bad_Ad? It work on ALL models and I don't have that pic right now)
    Thank for the info :)

I would make a stealth 2.8a chip for your scph-100(X) as it was the last chip to be made compatible with the 1st ps1's.

MM 2.2, mayumi 1 or 2 are better than stealth 2.8a.
Also mm3 it's absolutely useless on scph 100X. Only works on standard 4 wire mode.

That's OK, I don't have any 100x anyway. If I did, I would put it on eBay as it seems audiophiles love them as audio CD players. A mod chip won't make a difference if they are going to play nothing but audio CDs. ;)

I sent a PM to someone in the FS forum for the new modchips, one for this one and second for my PSOne that I've been using.
