Many people say that Sonic CD (Japanese & PAL version) is the best Sonic game out there. This is manly due to the awesome soundtrack that was changed in the US release to some sub standard cack that didn't even sound like it belonged in the game. The massive levels and of course the ability to warp to and from the future or past.

Personally I think that out of the normal Sonic games (platformers) that Sonic CD is the best of the lot closely followed by Sonic 2. Sonic 1 was good but I feel that Sonic 3 is pretty standard. The graphics have that grainy look to them that a lot of later MD games has plus the style of the game just isn't Sonic.

Anyway, what's your favourite Sonic game?

Sonic 2, followed by Sonic 1 on the SMS. Although I admit that I'm probably biased in choosing the latter as it was a childhood favourite.

  3. Sonic-CD everytime...

...Followed this from development to release, had the game on pre-order and still love the warp function to this day!

...Then I guess Sonic2 would be favourite due to the improvements in control functions from Sonic1.

...And then Sonic1, purely for the amount of time I spent playing that damn game!

I'd have to say Sonic 2. It was the game that came with my Genesis and one of the very first games I beat.

Sonic CD because it's a very typical sonic style pushed to the max....

And Sonic3 (without s&k) because its the last GREAT game of the sonic series, the playing ambiance is so immersive and the game engine simply kick ass...

Sadly I don't have Sonic CD, never played it either. So I'm gonna cheat and say Sonic Jam on Saturn is the best :smt043

Sonic 2, followed by Sonic 1.

    Undoubted classics.

IMO Sonic CD is too hectic, I dont mind the USA music, in fact i think its quite good, but the original soundtrack is wonderful (in production at least, nowt beats the Sonic 1 & 2 tunes)

    Sonic 3 is complete shit.

    Word.

Sonic 1 was great, although the final boss was easy to defeat once you got everything down.

Sonic 2 was my favorite. Great bosses, final boss was excellent, and so on.

Sonic 3 & Knuckes was also good, but didn't quite live up to the first two. Still high quality stuff

Sonid CD was excellent. THe tme warping feature was unique in platformers and offered quite a bit of gameplay. Only thing that sucked was the bosses, but eh.

For 2D sonic im going with sonic 2, its my most fave one. Love the twisty corkscrew platforms & the into the screen bonus levels.

For 3D sonic its sonic adventure 2 battle, out of the 3 that were released this seems the best one to me.

I'd have to say Sonic 2. I agree with Baseley09 about Sonic CD. It was very "hectic" and didn't flow well in my opinion. Actually, I'd probably say it's one of my least favorites. Though not as bad as Sonic 3D Blast or Sonic Heroes.

You know that Sonic CD was released in Japan after the US? I'm going to guess that Japan didn't like the soundtrack and changed it, we wouldn't change it to that shit sober. Sonic 2 was my most played game since it was packed in with every damn console but I liked Sonic 3 best when it came out. Maybe I should play them again.. I think I'd have to agree with Sonic 2. IMO Sonic 3 + Sonic & Knuckles is a very good game though... I like it's refined artwork, they brought back what was good and IMO only improved.

I like Sonic 2 best. I found it less annoying than Sonic 3 or S&K, it's like one of the only games I'm actually GOOD at (probably because I've played it a million times :-D), and the music is bitchin'!

I've only played Sonic CD on an emulator, and it seems a bit buggy - I've got stuck in the scenery a few times. Is this just bad emulation (in Gens/Gens Plus)? I also find the levels quite confusing...

It's not the emulator, the game is full of bugs. It really is a complex playing field so naturally they went through a dozen stages to crank out a game that wouldn't freeze every few minutes.

  17. Blimey, guess we was lucky waiting for the PAL release, played it to death, many times, never encountered any bugs!

Personally I think Sonic CD is one of the baddest sonic games out there. (and I'm an huge sonic fan). The best sonic game is for me Sonic Adventure (DC). I just love that game. Closely followed by Sonic 2 (MD) sonic 3D is also one of my favorites especially time-based thinkwise ;)

Sonic CD all the way best 16-bit sonic out there , awsome soundtrack (not counting the raped US version), enormous amount of levels thanks to past-present-future and great gameplay. :smt023

my runner up would have to be sonic 2 on the megadrive.

Best 3D sonic is still sonic adventure although i wish they'd left out the god damn annoying knuckles "find the damn blipping emerald without the use of a map"

Sonic 3 + Knuckles is by far the best Sonic ever made.

    Sonic 2 is next up.
