My family didn't have much money by the time I was a toddler so I got a NES from my cousins whom had just bought an N64 in the late 90's, then things started to go better and I jumped from the NES to the Playstation 2, my brain couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing , soon after I started buying consoles as they came out and some years later I started collecting.
Master System, Mega Drive, Xbox, then I started working so just bought all of them from then on, haha.
NES. We were big into the mario games, I remember getting mario 2, then mario 3, and thinking how awesome each new one was compared to the last.
Atari 7800. My mom bought it brand new in like 86 or 87. The story goes that her and her friend were going to buy game systems. They had to pick between the 7800 and the NES. My mom went with the 7800 and her friend bought the NES. I didn't come around til 96 so I wasn't able to play the 7800 until I was 3. Playing Pole Position 2 is my earliest memory that I can think of. We got a PS1 shortly afterwards and then went from there to the modern stuff. I eventually got a Famicom as my NES but I always go back to the 7800 and its terrible joystick controllers. Glad Genesis controllers work in 2600 mode. Need to get a NES or Famicom controller modded for the 7800...
Genesis. We got it in 1995, right before the PS1 came out (and I didn't meet anyone with a Saturn until I got one). After that I got an N64, then a Dreamcast, then Xbox.
atari 2600jr, always had an NES and my mom kept it locked away until 93-94, why? i have no fucking clue....... guess it was the adults system..... lol
Xbox Prior to that I was on PC playing kids games because my family thought video games would rot your brain but PC games were fine. Wanted to get a PS2 (even rented one when you could do that at BlockBuster!) but then when my mom told me that Microsoft was releasing a game console I blindly wanted that. Was always the techhead of the family
Ps1 , My dad brought it home one day with the game Tarzan and I played it all the time until he gave it away.
SNES. Friends always had the NES when I was growing up, but I didn't get a console of my own until some doctors convinced my parents that video games might improve my woeful coordination. I remember opening the box Christmas morning and being somewhat happy, but at the time I was awful at video games and was too afraid to try it out. The SNES sat in the box for months! In order, every console I've ever owned / bought new: SNES, GameGear, NES, C64, Gameboy, PSX, N64, PS2, Gamcube, Wii, PS3, Wii U.
Hah, I feel like the old guy here... My first console was a dedicated pong machine: a Binatone TV Master Mk VI: Although it didn't have a zap gun...tons of fun though. Then an Amstrad CPC 464, and then a NES.
My first "videogame" was the LCD game GhostHouse made by Bandai : (not mine in the vid). I still have mine, but could buy a CIB one some years ago. Such memories... My first console was an Atari 2600. dunno when... Maybe in 1985-1987.
