What's the appeal of MLP?

So the other day I decided to finally watch that new my little pony series and try to see why the hell are "bronies" so obsessed with the show

I dont get it, I watched 2 episodes and nothing, no inside jokes like say Freakazoid or Pinky & the Brain had, or even good but harmless jokes. It just had a awful dull dialogue, lazy scripting and terrible one-dimensional characters.

I really dont see the difference between this and the original show from before I was born, it really is a show for little girls, really little like kinder and elementary and thats it

So why all hoopla about this?

 

"I watched two episodes" - there is your problem. There are plenty of odd ball references here and there from what I've seen.

The main problem with bronies seems to be that 25% of them are furries according to one study.

Some are more interesting than others.

 

Basically they like to pretend their cartoon is actually made for adults because there was a pony that looked like a character from Big Lebowski in the background. There's nothing special about the show except its insane fanbase that likes to make cartoon pony porn and obsessively inject ponies into every aspect of their life.

Just consider the whole thing a big Internet meme that got out of hand.

 

Thats fine and everything, but 2 episodes that were 100% estrogen filled does not compensate for a few jokes in a handful of other episodes

I really dont understand how someone who's not a little girl can watch this without being bored to death

The problem I have with most bronies isn't the fact that they like to watch MLP, it's that they never shut the fuck up about it.

Hey guys, I like Banjo Kazooie. A lot. But notice you don't see me with a Banjo avatar (yet), a Banjo Kazooie inspired sig, a Banjo Kazooie inspired username, and making nothing but Banjo Kazooie jokes and references to it's subtle adult humor. Why? Because I know no one cares. I swear, I cannot go on ANY internet forum without seeing at least a few users fit that description with MLP in it's place. Even when something has absolutely nothing to do with MLP, they'll find a way to force MLP memes in there.

Bottom line? If you like to watch MLP, good for you. I'm not saying you shouldn't, just tone it down a bit for the courtesy of others.

EDIT: To clarify, there is nothing wrong with doing what I mentioned above as an individual. But in the case of MLP, it's not individuals. They're like a virus infecting the internet. And they'll stop at nothing until everyone is a brony.

Yep, you said. Although obviously that applies to every other possible interest, but I've found that bronies, furries and anime fans are the worst about making sure everyone knows they're into their respective thing and making their entire identity about that one thing.

 

I'm a brony AND a furry. You don't see me constantly blabbing it everywhere. Shit. Now I'm gonna get trolled since it's out of the bag...

I hate the majority of those furries and bronies who have to make everything furrified or ponified. ESPECIALLY HATE THE FURRY AND PONY PORN ADDICTS! God that shit is fucking awful! So the question is this: Am I truly a brony and furry? You tell me. I've watched the pony show like 4 time now, all 52 current episodes. I have hundreds of Sonic the Hedghog pictures and hacked Sega Genesis ROMS that have all been played at least once. I have a subscription to the Sonic comic from Archie Comics. I have the Mine Little Pony mod for Minecrtaft.

So am I a brony and furry? I think so. Does it make me a weird internet fag or something? HELL NO! I'm a normal person like the rest of you who hate my type of people because of some assholes who have to dirty it up or over dramatise it all.

I find the appeal of MLP FIM in the lessons each episode teaches. Many of then are timeless and all age groups can benefit from. I like the style of humor in it too. So I must be a lonely person who is a social misfit then. Tell that to the 20 friends I constantly chat with on Facebook who are NOT bronies or furries.

Go ahead and troll me for revealing this now. I'm used to it from YouTube dicks now.

 

My wife likes MLP a lot. It's ok.
I don't understand the insane fascination with it.

However I think most people don't understand my love of Power Rangers or Digimon. So whatever.

 

I love you assemlber, couldn't be more true. When they raided /b/ I left for close to a year, they make everything they touch online awful. Plus I have tried watching the show, and like OP said it really is lame and is no adult show.

Also they say all this shit about their "home" online and how they got kicked out of 4chan and made something better then got invited back. Drives me insane to listne to their BS. And not all are bad, but really the ones that are have become the face of the fandom.

 

My point exactly. I wish to kill those types. Here I should be defending then as one of "them"...

I hope to prove that even though I fit the description, I'm not an ass like a lot of the dickheaded bronies are.

 

I love MLP. The first 2 episodes are like an introduction to the characters. After that, the show really improves. A lot of my female friends/co-workers watch it. They think it's awesome that I watch it and that I'm able to converse with them about it. It'd be like if we met chicks that know about obscure dev hardware. idk... j/ my two cents.

I only watch the show and do not own any toys or whatever because that's too far.

Problem here: People compare one person (mostly the most "autistic ones" as the internet says) and compare that with the whole fanbase which is retarded.

Lonely people? I have friends, work 5 days a week, Administrate a GunBound server, and don't get mad over trolls like apparently this whole forum does.

 

LOL, say that to an anime community you won't last long. No matter what age or gender you are, you're allowed to like/watch a show.... (as long as it's not a show with children, THEN there is something wrong with you)

Everyone I know considers me a pervert cause I love DOA, and various female characters but what's wrong with that? I usually say; If you love watching/doing something that doesn't harm anyone else, then leave those people be. For one, I don't like MLP. A few jokes from the series my friend tells me about - but I really can't stand 20 minutes of it or however long the shows are.

Again with the judging, I know many people who watch MLP and are not lonely... I know the Internet is full of judgemental people here and there, but shit, how can you tell by the people who watch a cartoon?
