What's the appeal of MLP?

I watched the first few episodes on YouTube a while ago. It wasn't bad, I kinda liked it. But then the culture surrounding the show blew up and now i don't really want to be associated with it...

 

Not sure why people complain about others enjoying this show. Just because its about ponies doesn't mean its aimed for a younger audience. I view this as art, it's a way to communicate with people through art and colours. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

 

But what if their opinion sucks?

 

If this happens on YouTube, then I just ignore or report it, tell them to piss off as meanly as possible, block them from my channel, and move on.

 

Well , I do not watch MLP, but I watch
The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, and I watched Neds Newt, and I even watched Megas XLR. And hell even Regular Show, and why is that ? well it is easy. the Megas XLR, Neds Newt, and Regular Show, has LOADS of old video game related (Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, SNES, SMS etc. you name it references) hints, etc in it. The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy is just very cruel adult humour. Ben 10 rocked big time, except for Omniverse, but then again. maybe that is because I bloody HATE commercials. Which they send in the show, so fuck that ! Cause I am NOT looking to buy some what ever LEGO product and what not. I just want to watch the damn cartoon, which even is halted by almost crappy animation. Just like "Young Justice" ("Justice League juniors") is. Which is really just a load of still-frames with sound.

 

Uh, no. No idea why all the bronies are getting buttfrustsrated and defending themselves saying they're not one of THOSE bronies. Good for you, nobody cares. But it IS a children's cartoon and pretending it's not is really dumb.

Wow, look this thread wasn't about bronies but the MLP show itself.

So I went and watched a few more episodes to see what it was that I missed, but nothing, its the same stuff just shorter: instead of saving princess horse (its a horse right? I mean its way bigger than a pony) from the evil black smoke horse or whatever they do typical girlish stuff like dressing up for a party and decorating, etc....

The "lessons" from the show are really basic if not totally useless IRL, I dont know how anyone could've learned something through this show that they didn't hear at elementary or from other kids' show years or decades ago. There were no real inside jokes, this is not Rocko's modern life which managed to pull some pretty awesome adult jokes, on a channel for kids, and in the '90s.

If you use any of MLPs "lessons" IRL you're in for a ride, this cutesy stuff just doesnt works in the adult world.

Anyways, 4chan spammers are nothing but trolls and are totally unrelated to the real fans out there. Sure there are some fans that do talk much about it but EVERY fan of something does that also called on the internet a fanboy.

Anyways, for the longest time I already ignore haters since I don't pay attention to them. Of course I don't call someone that have an opinion a hater but I am talking about people that are like "You watch ... and you are gay" and not the "I personally don't like ..." which is way nicer to describe the whole thing.

Also a lesson: Never let ANYONE change your opinion of something you like. If your friends don't like it, tell them to deal with it.

The difference is that most video games are not aimed towards younger audiences because they're full of violence. Of course, video games as a whole are pretty juvenile and a lot of kids play them, but they're not aimed towards 5-year-olds. It's not like there's anything wrong with watching stuff that's for a younger audience - after all, Pixar movies are technically for kids too - but saying MLP is not meant for kids is a load of shit.

Nobody was calling you gay for liking it, besides nobody over 13 should use "gay" as an insult anyway.

 

This thread has gone from talking about the actual show to the dumbass trolls and the brony's reactions out there. Care to get back on the original topic and leave our personal feelings for the bronies out of this? Focus on the show itself and not the "weirdos" who watch it. (Has a lot of fingers pointed his way.
