Hard4Games is probably the most Assembler-like Youtube channel on the site. They explain things pretty well and make some okay content, I don't understand the hate from Assembler it seems get.
Some people on this forum have given off an atmosphere of maybe not hate, but more of a distaste for the channel. Maybe I'm insane or something
I think you're remembering the one guy that got his name shown in a H4G video during that whole Conker's Bad Fur Day awards show cart debacle. That's really the only instance I can recall of someone being a bit peeved with them.
They're relaxed enough and have shown they know what they're doing so they're not just a "literal who". outside of that my only major complaint was the following video. Topic was good, but the guest made it unwatchable for me. The flow was stop and go (and i will forgive it because distance related explanations) but the presentation of it was also poor. Granted I'm sure they got plenty of feedback of similar nature but this is my only real issue, outside of the MM64 cart, which they should have shown the debug version of, but thanks for the mention regardless.
I have always found Avgn to crap, but for what ever reason I have always found hard4games to have a certain charm.
I think distaste is the right word here. I'd never heard of them, then suddenly they show up and start tell us what's what? For the wind waker disc especially, the whole thing was radio silent until h4g uploaded their video. It wasn't a community endeavor. H4g took the game, passed judgement, then raked in the ad dollars (with a video one second over 10 mins long). Would they have put that effort in if not for the promise of a paycheck? If this were a hobby for them, that would be different. It feels to me like another group of white 20-something bros found a niche that lets them make money off patreon and youtube. In this case the niche is development stuff, but they would be just as happy making prank videos or fail compilations. No hate, just not a fan.
I watch their shows, but what's the deal with all the alcohol on camera? This and the immature jokes make them look like they lack seriousness.
I don't hate them either, I've watched their videos before and enjoyed them. Their style of comedy is up my alley. What I don't like is the knee jerk "Oh you got a beta? Send it to H4G!" reaction, like they are the end all authority for beta/dev content now. There are other people a little more serious in the preservation department that could be doing a more comprehensive job. I'd rather not go to a Youtube channel I go to for sex jokes to gather important information. I was going to compare them to Top Hat Gamer or something, but that's totally unfair to H4G. If you want the definition of dev hardware cringe, watch his video on the PSP Dev/test kit. So little information given, and somehow still mostly wrong.
They seem like cool guys, but some of their running gags are very immature, and I get bored with that real fast. Are there any other YouTube channels with decent quality that explore betas and protos?
unseen64 is pretty good. They ostensibly have contact with developers and their videos actually talk about things that aren't well known. (this is a good one)
I have only seen a couple of their videos and really had no opinion one way or the other. Yeah, that would certainly be irritating, though I get the feeling that that kind of "let's send stuff to people on YouTube!!" mentality isn't uncommon and certainly not limited to Hard4Games fans. I sometimes wonder if viewers don't mistake content creators for friends, or if getting a "shout out" actually means something to some people, which is something I personally do not understand.
My channel has hours of content that you won't see elsewhere, other than those that copy my content . Http://YouTube.com/ptoponline
Unfortunately, that doesnt work on this site. As you cant search for H4G, which turns up a few more results. But I wouldnt say its a constant thing. OP: Same as everyone else, just seem like they are the authority on the matter. Like the WW "beta" thread - just because some dudes got a youtube channel, that makes him know stuff or more trustworthy? People here know more and have been doing it a lot longer. Most just dont have youtube channels to make themselves seem important.
Right. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=h...rome..69i57.5468j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Still not enough to warrant saying everyone here hates them. In fact, there are only TWO threads amongst those showing hate... and BOTH TIMES it was @darkspire17. So, OP, your question should be entirely directed at darkspire - not this site. BTW @Bad_Ad84 - the server is dedicating a crazy amount of RAM to Elasticsearch. I spent weeks getting it to work on a single server (including totally breaking it and having to get the server reinstalled), because it should really be running on a cluster of servers - preferably at least three. It's sitting there, waiting for Kev to install the Enhanced Search plugin for Xenforo, which he was totally going to buy in, what, February 2017?
Yikes. Especially in view of all that, but also as basic curiosity, why not encourage using a Search Engine bookmark instead a forum server & labour load? ASSEMbler is one of the sites I've got set up that way. Because searching this site is high value & regular, and because built-in forum Search has never been comparable in my experience. https://www.google.com/search?safe=off&q=site:assemblergames.com BetaGuy64 -- I hope you don't mind this brief derailment. I think your question has been well answered already, so hope this is okay with you.
Actually now that I think about it, you wouldn't be wrong. I've seen those videos pop up, it is a little odd. I've never even entertained a patreon let alone physically sending someone something.
We've told people to use Google if they want to search the site for small words. It's not a good replacement for a on-page search, though. Whenever a site sends me to Google for results, I cringe.
All I know is when they start touching PS3 content then I'll have a more serious opinion of them If you're reading this now hit me up if you need advice
