depends on if the game is different per platform, for example the new pirates game, is completly different on the xbox 360 than the wii, same goes for spiderman (which sucked on all system imo) personally i go for the wii versions, because at least it gets the rest of my family involved in the games as wii games do tend to have more support for multiplayer, and yes i know its graphically inferior to the 360 and ps3 (which i also own) really its down to choice, not only graphics quality etc, but playability, i know a friend who hates the xbox beacuse of its controller, and plays ps2, yet i have another friend who is the opposite
in most cases people own a single console, at least that was the way it used to be back when i was begging for money from parents. So i think the answer is self-evident in most cases.
When the games are the same across the formats, then I buy whatever comes with the most extras or shiny things. Although I do have a number of games on several formats for no good reason.
If I already have the system then thats the version I'm getting, if not then I'm getting the version that looks better (and the system that goes with it).
If you're talking new games i get the cheapest, unless there's a nice special edition. When it comes to retro stuff its SEGA all the way even if other versions are better:110:.
Last gen I always got XBOX, due to the nicer controller and slightly prettier graphics. Since I have no next gen consoles quite yet, I just don't buy them!
completly agree, besides which its the best last gen console for HD supported games (gamecube in 2nd, dreamcast after that and ps2 waaaaaaay down the list)
PS2 does display in 16:9..........SORT OF you have to set your TV to 16:9 where I usually have my TV set at Set by Program so like say tekken 5 it doesn't auto detect my TV's Settings I have to do it my self if I want to play in wide screen.
not talking about widescreen support, more edtv/hdtv support, there are less than 10% of playstation 2 titles that support a minimum of 480p resolution, whereas the xbox, gamecube etc, have ahuge amount of games that support said resolutions and to display a ps2 correctly in widescreen, on the ps2 bious set the video mode to 'full' not 16:9
Historically I'd just buy the version for the console that I had, which generally was also the version that looked the best being the PS2 was inferior to the XBox. Now that I've got a Wii and a 360 I get the 360 version unless something makes the Wii version better.
I got the PSP version of Metal Slug Anthology, but I'm also going to get it for the Wii as soon as I get one. Which is still pretty far off. Anyways, Current gen is a ways off for me, but I'd always get the Xbox version of whatever multi-platform games I got. For one thing, the graphics were better in my opinion, and I prefer the Xbox pad for FPSs. I did buy the PS2 version of Metal Arms, but I've regretted it ever since. Framerate was crap, graphics were jaggy, shitty controls, didn't have PS2 online at the time, etc.
Last gen, it mostly depended on what features it had. For example: I picked up the xbox version of Burnout 3 and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time due to content (Xbox version using xbox live, while SoT having more content in the Xbox version). Gamecube was horrible for exclusives, since they usually ported the PS2 version or dumbed down the graphics to make it fit. PS2 was mostly for exclusives, unless there was little difference in the graphics. This gen, its a bit different. 360 has achievements and xbox live servers (and better support for downloadable content), while the PS3 gets most things late and dumbed down (odd world we live in, eh?). Wii seems to be a mixture between the last gen and current gen, since the majority of its library are ports of PS2 and GCN games.

Having been multi console forever, what makes me decide on a system is; 1: Performance 2: Controls 3: Content 4: Release dates/availability 5: Price 1: Does the game crash on a system? Does it have annoyingly long loading times? Does the game run smooth(er) on one of the systems? 2: Does the game have a shitty controller layout that just doesn't work with a controller that doesn't have atleast 3 shoulder buttons? Does the game cause you pain because you need to swap between analog and d-pad in a way that doesn't feel natural for me? (go up or down, basicly). Does the controls somehow affect the experience? In current gen, DS and Wii have been able to provide additional touches to the gameplay and I love to play games in "new ways" and challange myself. 3: Does one of the versions feature something the others don't? Exclusive content? Online features? Accessories? 4: Is the game available only on a specific system for a couple of weeks, months, years? Is one of the other platforms gonna be so delayed that I just can't wait that long to get my hands on the action? 5: Price "may" affect my purchase, but most of the time, I let myself bow down to the price of the "luxury" of having the version that fits me best. But like, if for some odd reason Game X might be launched at near budget price on one system but at full "next gen" new price on another. That might make me buy the non-#1 version while waiting for the #1-choice to drop in price. But if it also happens to Game Y, I might just go out and buy the more expensive one, as I want the features/controls/whatever "that much"
