Yeah, I usually try to use more, but there were good messages across each page (as I later found out). :)

    Those are amazing.

I remember finding some groups Gameboy documents, and MuMBlY's Genesis documents on a BBS. That was awesome. I wanted to be 'elite' just to get access to stuff like that.

The one that caught my eye and lead me to those other lists was the "PSYQ-SEG.ZIP" file, which is apparently the PSY-Q dev kit for Megadrive. Has this surfaced since?

Cheers babu. Searching for PSYQ-SEG.zip didn't show it for some reason...

Ah those NFOs take me back. What a fun time the BBS days were. 300 baud modems and C64s. I remember when the concept of emulation was fresh and new. Maybe someone can help me remember something. There was an 8-bit NES emulator - I recall it being notable as the first ever NES emulator (and really, the first emulator of any gaming machine). It's definitely not nesticle if someone is thinking that. This is way before nesticle. I want to say it was something like 4-letters long - but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me. I googled for first nes emulator, list nes emulators, and all the lists I found (including the wiki) did not list anything that rang a bell. I just remember loading it up in DOS and thinking what an incredible thing it was.

Beats me. The earliest NES emu I remember was PasoFami, with its weird multi-file ROM formats and emulated sound through MIDI.

[edit] Could it be "iNES"? That was the first popular multiplatform NES emu, I think.

iNES came out even after Nesticle didn't it? This was much before its time and only ran in MSDOS. I want to say the 4 letters were all consonants or just 1 vowel. Possibly starting with an M or there's an M in there somewhere.

Calpis - I think VSMC was the name dancing around my brain, but I must be mixing memories because the first NES emulators came about before the first SNES emulators - and I'm nearly positive that it was the first rudimentary NES emulator that did something interesting besides crash.
(But not nesticle because I remember the memory of using that and having a similar "wow" experience.)

Does anyone have an accurate timeline for NES emulators? Most places seem to think that the world started with Nesticle.

Oh, and Calpis - in case I have your attention - from reading various things on these forums you seem to have a good fund of knowledge about console copiers. Have you seen the other post I've made in this forum about some mysterious MGD2 items that need identification?

    You've got a PM.

AFAIK NES emulation really sucked until iNES. After iNES there was FwNES, LoopyNES, FCE and Nesticle, those were all I tried in ~1998 due to iNES, Pasofami and some other good ones being shareware.

Perhaps you're thinking of NESA which I *think* came out back in like 96? It was only for DOS and I know it predates Nes-Lord which was discontinued in 97.

Also possibly TNES? I think it was written in Assembly.
