Hey, I'm about to receive a debug playstation one that has a few nice additions to regular playstation like playing cd-r and is region free. Well, is there any other hardware like that that would interested people that won't develop a homebrew? I've been reading a lot about the PS2 Tool and I'm gathering interested in one but I got to be honest I would never develop a thing since I'm no coder at all. Is it worth for someone like me? And what else? The debug xbox? The GameCube NR Reader? Playstation 2 Test? Anything appealing for a gamer?
There's the nintendo nitro capture device which lets you play DS on a television. Neat stuff. Wish i had one.
Yeah, that kind of thing I'm talking about. It's not a dev stuff but I own a super wide boy 64 that let you use game boy color cartridges with the nintendo 64, it was never sold anywhere but it's not dev.
There's also the AGB-CAPTURE. Lets you play AGB games on your TV. Kinda pointless if you already have a GB Player. I'd still like to have one though, just as a collectors item.
Yeah, at this point buying a modified DS does mostly the same thing, so it isn't necessary to buy a Nitro kit (not that they aren't nice.) I'd say last generation had some of the best consoles for regular people, with the PS2 Test being able to play all sorts of media with little work, and the Xbox Debug kit having 128mb of ram. NR Readers don't do much for people. The PS1 debug kit is also a good one for a normal person. Past that, most seem to have specialized uses that don't offer too terribly much
I read that PS2 Test can't play DVD-R or just a few models do. You need to master the ISO before burning it up. Besides the FMCB would not work. Is any of that true?
It does need to be mastered (which is a quick patch), but it also plays PS1 cd-rs, which is nice. Its not ideal, and certainly not as useful today as it would have been when the modchips were a bit more shaky.
You need to be really small to be able to get tucked under the PS2 Tool. So everyone here that owns a PS2 Dev Tool uses it for homebrew development? I was hoping it could lead to an easy way to load games like: run game.iso [enter] and there it goes.
I'm after a debug Xbox or something like it with 128MB RAM for Linux and certain other games. I may have a deal for a model that also has a 1GHz CPU in it. Just need some money...
The Neo Pocket dev kit has video out for use with a monitor, along with a standard 15 pin controller port, which is totally awesome.
Not really. It's quite the complicated machine unless you know how to work with Red Hat Linux (and an old version, too) Plus it's massive, loud, heavy and expensive if you plan on just running games like that. -If you have a good PC/Mac, have you considered emulating games? That would be very to
