I'm using Ubuntu 5.10 (old, I know). I can't get the nVidia drivers working, but that has more to do with me not knowing how to use Linux. I already had to change some setting to get the GUI working, and I really don't even remember how I did that. I'll probably download a newer version and give it a shot when I get some free time.
Heh, i've still got a stack of 5.10's sittin around somewhere. I still have 5.10 installed on my older machine, though my 6.10 cd's arrived a few weeks back, so i may be tempted to try it on one of my newer machines
The thing with Linux is don't use an older version on older comps, use a different, cut down distro. Xubuntu's pretty cool.
Ubuntu 7.04 is working great. Nvidia drivers are working, and I got wireless going with ndiswrapper. I'm actually posting this under Linux, which is a first.
I use Ubuntu 7.04 (actually my only OS, Windows hard drive died and never got round to reinstalling it). Very easy to install, detected my graphics card straight away, I can run Beryl at about half power and max out several games no problem. Only thing that wasn't detected was my TV card, but I expected that, and easy to get working by editing things manually. As for wireless, my household is wired, but when I have tried to set up wireless for people it's a pain on most distros. Ubuntu has a great community though, so while the hand-holding isn't there yet, the help to do it the hard way certainly is.
I use Debian on testing with KDE/IceWM .I used to have Slackware as well but I really don't see the config Toll benefits anymore .
I second that. I use Xubuntu on my old Notebook, a Toshiba Satellite 4000CDT. Managed to make my old serial port Zip Drive working with it as well. Gonna look for a cheap PCMCIA ethernet card this week.
My french computer just been updated to Gusty Gibon Tribe 4. Runs OK, but really held back by the ATI graphics now. Compiz wont work with at all. So been thinking of getting a 6600gt card (same as my server pc) or pushing the boat out and getting a top spec Dell dual core 2 jobby.
